Default iPhone 3GS running 3.01 won't boot, what options do I have?

I had an iPhone 3GS, jailbroken and unlocked working perfectly fine on TMO... Then I installed iBluetooth, and the phone crashed and will no longer boot. It just hangs at the Apple logo. So I tried to run redsn0w again, and it runs, but near the end of the installation I get an error that says:

    **Checking Catalog file.
    Invalid index key
    (4, 24)
    ** Rebuilding Catalog B-tree
** The volume Data could not be repaired
    .
    Mounting rootfs as read-write...
    Mounting devfs...
    Mounting disk0s2s1
    ERROR!

After that,it just hangs until I power the device down. I don't want to do a restore and upgrade to 3.1 because I fear that I won't be able to unlock the phone should an unlock solution not arise, so right now I'm stuck with an expensive paper weight. Any suggestions on what i should do?

Just wait for news from Dev Team
Do not try to restore the phone using firmware 3.1
Not the answer you want to hear but waiting is your best option at the moment.

    Default Irecovery

You need to use irecovery to get into the phone iboot, then if you have the exploit you can enable the fs commands as these will show permission denied if you dont. Once you have the you need to repair the index selection invalid index key (4,4) to i think (4,3) then you can run redsn0w and it will work.

    Default How to Use iRecovery?

    Quicksilver,
I have the same situation and not sure how to use iRecovery to go into iBoot.

I did try to use iRecovery in Dos-command but it will not recognize the 3Gs iPhone when it's actually still in recovery mode.

Do you need to upload iRecovery into the 3Gs iPhone and run it in the terminal? Or do you executed in DOS and try to tap into the 3Gs iPhone to modify and fix the Index Key? Any special software needed?

Can you please reply and provide steps by steps procedures?

    TIA

I too have this issue... I can get into irecovery... what commands do I need to run to fix this boot issue? - as a note to dktool.. you have to be in the restore mode for irecovery to work.. it wont' see the phone in DFU mode. at least this was the case with mine. [aka you want to see the connect to itunes graphic]

    thanks,
    Jared

Enter DFU mode, connect to itunes, restore with firmware 3.0

Hi - the procedure you mention of re-flashing the phone is not an available option as apple prevents you from installing old firmware... I had told cydia to - make my life simple - but i only has 'pending tss request' and as such a reflash back to 3.0.1 wouldnt work.. however... i believe in trying to do it i may have modified a boot variable because now mine is booting again.. i tried a restore of 3.0.1 as well as a few commands in irecovery and viola it booted today.. it seems the command i ran in irecovery was just 'bootx' now I dont know if that saved anything or not.. but i'm not going to ask too many questions as it is all good now :-) Good luck in your fix.

    Wrong.
This will not work unless you have your 3.0 ecid/shsh stored on Saurik's server. Don't do it unless it meets the requirement above.

I have exacly the same problem. I was in a nice 3.0.1 JB iphone. did a Restore from the iphone. never booted after that (Stuck on Apple Logo).

So I'm not on 3.1, and I have nor saved my files in cydia.

I redid a JB many times but without success

So I ve tried iRecovery and I got exactly the same ourput as _DL_

can anyone explain me how to fix indexes or fsck partitions .

I found that using redsnow allow us for some seconds to use irecovery in unrestricted mode (thanx to th exploit) . So If someone could hhelp me in iboot comands I will be gratefull.

@quicksilver5797 : can u please tell me step by step commands !!! please.

@nptn2k : you didn't use the cydia shsh save. So could you just tell me more about what you did ? Ie how did you restore 3.0.1 (itunes ? reds0w ? iRecovery). I ve tried just the bootx from irecovery (restricted mode/ from Recovery Menu (itune logo) ) ut It doen't work.

    Can you please help.

Irecovery on iphone 3GS will not help you fix your issue.
Your best option now is to wait for Dev Team to release pwnagetool for 3GS
Do not attempt to restore firmware 3.1 onto your phone.
I repeat, don't do it. If you do, you will not be able to unlock your phone.
