Iphone 3gs Recovery loop (error 40)
This is a jail-broken phone, it is now stuck in recovery mode.
I've tried the standard itunes restore, and restoring with custom ISW files from snowbreeze, and I've tried iREB. All of the above both while the phone is in recovery mode and in DFU.
In all cases, the phone ends up the picture of the USB-> Itunes while on and I get error 40 while attempting to restore. I've tried both on my home and work computers with different cords and USBs.
I don't care if I save any data or preserve a jailbreak (I'd prefer it to not be jail-broken at this point honestly), I just need a usable phone again. Any suggestions?

Take a look: iTunes Errors - The iPhone Wiki
Apparently you need to update sn0wbreeze and then create a new custom firmware.

It is one of the things I tried.
I was getting this error before I tried this, but then I downloaded the latest version of snowbreeze (2.6 I believe) and created a new firmware file and got the error code 40.

Ok, try restoring to an original firmware, just click Restore on iTunes and let it download and install the firmware on your iPhone.

Also one of the things I tried (many times in this case)

Well, looks like you're in a bad luck, unfortunately. I took a look in your log, googled a little and didn't find anything good. Take a look here: iPhone 3gs, crash then stuck in recovery mode - MacRumors Forums
Is there something that happened to this phone that you think could have caused this?
PS. I could just be completely wrong, though, I am not sure at all, just a thought based on what happened and the restore log.

I've taken a look at your log, there is a problem with your flash (NAND) memory, it's not reformatting sucessfully. This is 99.99% a hardware problem that can't be easily repaired.

Hi, I know I am posting in the middle of a discussion. I am also trying to figure out how to restore a jailbroken 3gs from the recovery loop (with the itunes logo and the usb cord). I am trying the most recent version of tiny umbrella but it is giving me an error message that says: Cannot start TSS Sevice. DO NOT TRY RESTORING YOUR DEVICE!! inetinfo.exe (PID: 3344) must be killed!!" Can anyone tell me what this means and what it is that I need to do to restore my phone back to its operational jailbroken status??

This is called thread-jacking and is considered extremely rude (especially when there is not much chance you actually have the same problem. I'll answer your standalone post (please don't reply to this thread any further)
