    Default iPhone 3GS Reception/WiFi problem

Ok so my problem with the iphone 3gs.

My phone is unlocked with ultrasn0w 1.2.5 on iOS 5.0.1 with tmobile carrier. I have iPad baseband 6.15 on iPhone 3GS 16GB new bootrom. My problem is that my iphone has reception and is completely fine when I have the wifi turned off. Once the wifi is on and I'm browsing on safari or using an internet required app my phone signal goes into 'searching' and then 'no service'. I turn on airplane mode and back off and the reception comes back for a while but then leaves again. I have tried reinstalling ultrasn0w already and nothing. I jailbroke my iPhone with redsnow 0.9.9b9 using IPSW 5.0

Any suggestions? Also I seem to be having problems with the location services and fast battery drain, idk if those have anythign else to do but my main concern is the signal

This can happen if you were on 06.15.00 prior to installing iOS 5.0.1. Users have experienced this type of problem as well as intermittent connectivity. To resolve, re-flash the iPad baseband to your device using PwnageTool or redsn0w. Also, don't use redsn0w 0.9.9b9, it's no longer current. There's an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 (called Corona) which is what the current tools use and what is the most reliable untethered JB. You can use redsn0w 0.9.10b3 to jailbreak this version. Since you're on 06.15.00, you may need to do a no_BB update to it if you can't use the delta update directly from the iPhone OTA.

Beyond that, when you jailbroke, did you hacktivate? If so, did you then use SAM to revert lockdownd to stock and then legitimately activate using iTunes? If not, that's likely what's causing your fast battery drain and location services issues.

I just used SAM to revert lockdownd to stock but I can't activate it it with itunes. I also tried deactivating with redsnow and that didn't work either

If it won't activate using SAM at its automatic settings, go ahead and manually configure the carrier and SIM card type in the SAM preferences, then reboot the phone and re-attempt activation. Absolute worst case you can re-run redsn0w to hacktivate, but that won't resolve the push notification or battery issue.

I did what you suggested about reflashing the baseband and it worked. I also had read somewhere that putting a bit of scotch tape to hold the sim wasa good idea too so both of those thigns got me very good results. I wildcardactivated the phone but the issues with location are still there, I think I can live with that thoguh lol. Thanks for the help and sorry for the extremely late reply I had been very busy this week

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was having the same problems as the thread starter, and I was following all the steps until the bit about using SAM to address the battery drain and the location services issue.

Problem is that whenever I try installing SAM and SAM Prefs, even before it's done installing, I automatically get booted back to the activation screen on my iPhone. And then whether I try activating it via iTunes or via WiFi, I get a "your iPhone could not be activate at this time" message. I've been trying constantly for the past 16 hours. And since I'm on a "activation required" screen, I can't access my phone, or SAM Prefs, or whatever to manually configure SAM. Am I doing something wrong?

    I'm using a 2009 week 48 16GB 3GS running iOS 5.0.1 with bootloader 6.15.00 jailbroken via Redsn0w 0.9.10b4 and unlocked via Ultrasn0w 1.2.5.

My only guess would be to restore, re-jailbreak, then retry. It shouldn't fail during the package install process and if it does it's usually indicative of either a bad jailbreak or some failure with Cydia...

i've tried it three times, same result each time. maybe it's because redsn0w 0.9.10b4 does something different..?

so restore, rejailbreak, everything. it starts out okay, phone is hacktivated during the unlock, I start installing SAM and SAM Prefs. in the middle of the install, the phone reboots, and suddenly it's no longer activated and is unusable. it won't activate via wifi, and it won't activate via iTunes.

Odd. Just to test, I just installed SAM on my phone and was successful -- iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1, jailbroke with redsn0w 0.9.10b1, upgraded to fix launchctld issue by installing the Corona 5.0.1 Untether package, and SAM installed properly -- it did require a reboot after install, but it hadn't deactivated my phone. For giggles, I reverted lockdownd to stock and plugged into iTunes after setting my SIM information (even though I'm using AT&T on an AT&T locked phone) and I did not experience the same issues you're having...

I didn't jb with redsn0w 0.9.10b4, so I don't know if that's causing it, though I am using the package in Cydia which does exactly the same thing...
