Iphone 3gs: Asks for pin after restore
Hi! I recently tried to jailbreak my iphone 3gs and that was a fail. But I ended up restoring it. Now the Iphone is asking me to insert a valid SIM and putting a pin in. Problem is.. I am not an at&t carrier. If I use my friend's SIM card, will it affect the phone or the SIM card in any way? Please help
Thanks in advance!

Did you restore from iTunes backup? Or just restore the OS?
What OS did you restore to?
How do you mean putting a PIN in? There is a Passcode (for the phone) and a Pin (stored on the SIM) both are optional.
What carrier is the phone locked to? AT&T?

I believe it backed up to the original 3.1.3
It is a carrier of AT&T. I'm not too sure, it just tells me to add a valid SIM with no pin lock. I'm just wondering if the SIM will affect the phone or anything.. it shouldn't right??

Now I understand. You have likely lost your ability to use the iPhone until a new jailbreak and unlock are released.
This topic has been discussed many times here. If you use your iPhone with another carrier instead of AT&T you must be very very careful about applying any OS updates as they will usually remove the unofficial unlock that you currently rely on.
If you can borrow a valid AT&T sim that is currently on an iPhone contract (or an AT&T sim that is no longer active but was originally on an iPhone contract) then you can use the iPhone as an iPod touch. However it is 99% likely that you have lost your unofficial unlock.
