    hardware specific,

I like that the 3GS is available in white

I like that the map will now know which way Im facing

I like the option to voice dial

    ATT specific

I like that 3G is faster than Edge

    FW 3.0 specific

I like copy paste, and callendar search

    unanswered questions

    how do I get FW 3.0 on a Yellowsn0w unlocked 3g?

will the 3GS be available without contract, and how much will it cost to break contract?

will I buy the 3GS? mmaybe..

ATT has better reception in my current home area. Im considering giving up Tmobile, but if I do, ATT will cost me about $45 more per month.. might be cool to forget about Yellowsn0w..

With the new 3Gs it has the capability of receiving the updated HSPA version which supports speeds of up to 7.2 mbps. However, in the states with AT&T being as wonderful as they are they won't have a complete roll out of this until the end of 2011 they are suggesting.

Also keep in mind it is broken up between upload and download speeds which will be different. You will always get faster download than upload and right now they are projecting the max download speed will be around 5.6 mbps.

The best would be to live in Australia, Austria, Hong Kong, or Singapore where they have installed the 21mbps HSDPA on their networks already. It would be amazing if there was a phone that could get those speeds...

    2 times faster loading apps:
Apple - iPhone - View all the features of the new iPhone 3G S.
"The first thing you’ll notice about iPhone 3G S is how quickly you can launch applications. Web pages render in a fraction of the time, and you can view email attachments faster. Improved performance and updated 3D graphics deliver an incredible gaming experience, too. In fact, everything you do on iPhone 3G S is up to 2x faster and more responsive than iPhone 3G."

Seems to be a "solid" update, but not exactly mind-blowing. In my few years with Apple products, it seems they don't really do revolutionary updates. I'm still using a 8GB ver 1 iPhone (w/ AT&T), and am still uncertain whether I'll update. Just too cheap to pay $18 upgrade plus $15 extra per month for data + 200 texts. The price of the phone doesn't bother me, but I think my monthly AT&T bill is too high already given my usage.

It's good but I'm not impressed...and I hate it when Apple removes some of the software to keep it for the new model..

    I think I won't get it now...

I am all up for revolutionary new devices and ideas but the 3GS is just a forced piece of tin. Why?

Some of the guys around here just bought the 3G a few months ago, so they would get the privilege of buying a new one at a doubled price. If they don't take a "quantum leap" towards the esteemed 3GS, they are pretty much done for their iExperience. Why?

Apple has developed it to be a speedy 3G, thus the name 3G Speed. By doing that, they condemned the rest of the 3G world for a slow and painful death. Why? By increasing hardware capabilities like the new processor clocked for about 200 MHz above the 3G, doubling the RAM to 256 MB and updating the 3D technology exclusively for the iPhone 3GS with all those nasty new SDK implementations for developers to use, what do you think will happen? They will create bigger, more expansive, more graphically-intense games that only the gents and damsels with the 3GS will be able to play them without stuttering which is already experienced with some advanced games on the AppStore. Imagine how the situation will look in a couple of months.

When you want to drop out a little shell before redesigning the whole iPhone idea for something revolutionary, you ought to just make a makeup change of it's design and a few internal things to make it more bulletproof. They did the whole damn thing the opposite way, screwing us over. This is the first time I experience a fast shell-drop out of a new device which kept the old design while throwing in a bunch of unneeded stuff just to earn a few bucks more.

Second of all, all of those new megafeatures could have been implemented into the 3G.

Video recording? There is nothing here to discuss, perhaps not the 3mpx quality, but certainly an implementation is viable as saurik and the rest of the bunch proved on jailbroken devices.

Digital Compass? Apple claims that they have implemented some sort of a magnetometer inside the iPhone 3GS software so they are unable to give it to the 3G. Like the introduction of 3G gave the A-GPS technology for improved location services, they did a backdrop for the old iPhone by allowing the GPS signal be aided and triangulated by the local network towers.

We have the A-GPS technology implemented which is pretty much precise, knowing the location of the device at all times, which was tested out a millions of times with a reasonable and acceptable margin of error, magnetic declination could have been calculated using just the provided data, and everything else can be worked out from there. But of course, that would include work, which lately seems to be troubling for the Apple's lazy backside.

We even have an accelerometer, if it were more precise, using the fact that the Earth's gravity field oscillates from different latitudes and altitudes, even with a dead GPS system, we could determine our location with a little help from the user and thus calculate the magnetic declination and use it onwards with implemented algorithms. This just a stupid idea but well, you get the point.

Voice control? This is the one that confuses me the most. Some say that 128 MB RAM and a 400 MHz processor cannot compute simple audio input. And that 200 MHz more and 256 MB can... Funny. It's just a matter of having a clear input which the 3G's microphone does a fantastic job without breaking up. Everything else is on the implementation of the software to be processed and return a text-to-speech answer. They just wanted to lock it out of the 3G so more people would shift to the lovely 3GS.

Well, that's most of my opinion, I am a little pissed off because of the new 3GS since I only got the 3G a few months ago

There are always technology updates. If there weren't we would all be bored. It is the same with cars, computers, tvs, and any other electronic devices. They will continually be updated and people have to realize they will not always have the greatest/newest technology unless you want to pay the price.

On the other side of the spectrum is someone like myself who has never owned an iPhone and am happy with any progression on the 3G. Although I was hoping there were going to be even more updates to the 3G to create the 3GS, but oh well. And I'm sure I will be sad next year when the next iPhone comes out and I don't have the newest phone anymore but thats the "fun" of technology.

People need to stop whining and realize this is a natural progression of technology.

I agree with you on the most part, but it would have been more logical to prolong the release of the 3GS, maybe even expand the concept in design, make it unique and release it in December.

Nobody should whine about the process of ever-advancing technology, I love that. But in this specific case, not that much because this isn't progress, just a forceout to earn more money. I am most likely going to get the 3GS too since I luckily don't have any financial issues for the time being and I really like the iPhone for it's experimental purposes.
