Default I upgraded to 3.1, what an idiot.

I stupidly upgraded my iPhone 3GS last night & it's no longer unlocked... that sucks... I know there's not an unlock available yet & as i've upgraded the baseband, and when one comes available it may not work?...

Is it right that I can't restore factory settings? do I have any other options (I might have a turbo sim somewhere from my old 2g?)

It's still working as a touch, but no phone

No options now, possibly never due to the reduced attack surface for the new baseband. This makes it much less likely a new hole will be found to inject the sn0w payload any time soon.

I suspect that the dev-team will release a new pwnagetool that optionally blocks baseband update, so people can upgrade to 3.1 but use the old baseband and theultrasn0w unlock. That won't help you at all, sorry.

Motto, if you rely on devteam unlock, wait on all upgrades until they say it is safe.

"dude, start finding someone to sell it to who's on at&t............"

I'm in the Uk so it's O2... I bought the phone less than 2 weeks ago so I may be able to take it back to carphonewarehouse get a refund then pop into an apple or O2 store & get a new one?

Sending a text message on my N95 was so much more painful after having an iPhone again, I can't handle using such crap again. ulch!

If you can find some way to make it faulty (i.e. remove the silver part of the silence button) then book an appointment at the Apple Genius bar in a town nearest to you, they will exchange it without question and you will more than likely get one with 3.0 firmware but I wouldn't delay on this.
If you have had it 2 weeks already then you are out of the 'return' period. O2 will take back a faulty iPhone and send it to Apple for repair or exchange only. Much better to go to Apple store if you can.
If you are very careful, you can ping the silver part off the slider/silence button using a model knife blade but be very gentle and don't let it slip/scratch it then leave that part at home :-)
    Good luck.
I have no idea how you can accidentaly upgrade to 3.1 without realising he consequences?

No, all replacements in the Apple store will have the updated FW. They are diligent like that.

Errr, no they are not, I have exchanged a few times in the history of iPhones and the replacements are never up to date with current firmware release. There was a time when they were told to update instore before letting you go with your exchange, but if you simply said you were in a hurry they didn't bother (think it was 3G around 2.2 release)

Swapped one of my co-worker's devices out as it had a bad home button and it came with 3.1. Looks to be determined by how 'on the ball' your Apple Genius Bar is. This one came from Lenox Mall, Atlanta, GA yesterday afternoon.
