I took the update.....restoring firmware doesnt work..Help!!
OK....for some reason i decided to take the 3.1.3 update firmware for Iphone 3GS and it deleted my jailbreak. I looked up how to restore it back....shift+click restore and get the custom 3.1.2 ipsw file and restore. But it gets almost done and I get an unknown error. What am i doing wrong? or is it impossible now with this update?

The downgrade from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 is possible if you used Cydia's make my life easier or firmware umbrella to back up your ECID SHSH for OS 3.1.2 before Apple stopped signing 3.1.2 requests two days ago.
If you don't have the SHSH one of the people on irc might help you with a downgrade.
Either way, you still have 3.1.3 baseband which can't be unlocked via blacksn0w or any older unlocks.
It is not possible to downgrade baseband on a 3GS
This is all why it is repeated over and over again: 3G and 3GS owners: if you rely on jailbreak or unlock avoid upgrade if possible. If absolutely necessary upgrade only with a carefully made pwnagetool custom ipsw!

Does this mean the Pwnage Tool will work on 3.1.3?...that we can make a custom 3.1.3 ipsw and upgrade while preserving the old 3.0.x baseband?
I ask for two reasons:
- some people still on 3.0.x want to upgrade to 3.1.2 and now Apple isn't signing 3.1.2 for 3GS anymore.
- I would like to have a custom Pwnage 3.1.3 ipsw if possible in case I run into a problem and have to restore so I can avoid official 3.1.3.
I still have my custom 3.1.2 ipsw, but doesn't Apple have to sign it somewhere too if I restore to it? I may be wrong, and hope I am, but I thought a custom ipsw made with Pwnage still has to be signed by Apple when it's used for a Restore.
Thanks for any answers you can share!

Firstly, I don't have any dev-team inside information. Just working on what has been said in public previously and making some very educated guess.
Pwnagetool will be updated to support OS 3.1.3, this is a given. How long I don't know. Probably this will not not take too long as unofficial xpwn based solutions are already floating around.
An updated pwnagetool will almost certainly *not* be able to directly jailbreak 3GS or 3rd gen iPod touch running OS 3.1.3. You will need to be jailbroken on OS 3.1.2 or earlier and load a custom IPSW.
Redsn0w can already be made to work for most of the older iPod/iPhone devices on 3.1.3 (except MC model 2G iPod touches, 3GS and 3G iPod touch). Although redsn0w will support the 3G, extreme caution must be taken with the 3G iPhone as it is generally impossible to downgrade the baseband on the 3G.
There will likely never be an unlock for the 3.1.3 baseband.

No a custom IPSW does not have to be signed by Apple when used for a Restore. However your phone needs to be previously pwned to allow the restoration of unsigned custom IPSW. It's a chicken and the egg problem that requires an iBoot exploit to solve.

No this will not work, the siging is done through iTunes and is iPhone specific, nothing to do with which custom firmware you are using. There is nothing on the FW to sign each handset. The reason yours (and his will) fail is when iTunes goes to sign it does not recognise a 3.1.3 FW, it sees the 3.1.2 and throws an error. In a word you are stuck until a new pwnage is developed. Your baseband will never be restored back - ever. Be patient for your next jailbreak.
