Hi! I just bought an iPhone 3gs from ebay and it came with 3.1.3 firmware and 5.12 baseband, and when i turned it on its in the please insert a valid sim card screen... From what I understand is not possible to hacktivate the phone, nor unlock or jaiolbreake, the only solution is to activate it with an ATT sim card.

If I manage to get an old att sim card (not activated right now) or a Pay as you Go sim card, will I be able to activate it???

If so, please tell me wich are the steps.

Yes, place SIM card in and connect to a computer with iTunes on it. Done.
You can only use that iPhone with AT&T as you cannot unlock it so you night as well get your own PAYG SIM anyway. unlock possibly released late June.

If you use an AT&T PAYG SIM with iPhone you will be forced to buy the $30 "unlimited data plan" - see AT&T signals an abrupt end for some prepaid iPhone plans (updated)

Thanks a lot, I just used and old PAYG sim card, connected to Itunes, and WALA, its activated, no im going to try Spirit, and then wait for unlock!

Mine is also not activated and because I live in MD Ican't find an AT&T SIM so I can't do anyting with it?
