Unhappy How to 3GS Jailbreak 3.1.3 Baseband 05.12.01?

Hi, I am new to Hackint0sh. I have a 3GS which I unintentionally upgraded to 05.12.01 and I realized I made a big mistake :-(((! Looks like only slim chances of getting an unlock for this Baseband.

Can someone help me with atleast jailbreaking the phone? I haven't done this before either. I am doing this in the hopes that someone might come up with unlock for this BB soon!!

    Many thanks!

If your phone is a 3GS and you do not have an SHSH on file, you cannot currently jailbreak the device. And not to piggyback on the pain train, but you're also correct that you've removed the possibility of an unlock for the device at this point.

There are two ways you could have received an SHSH for 3.1.2:

    1) Ran Cydia while 3.1.2 was being signed by Apple's servers and answered Yes to its question about whether you want it to make your life easier.
    2) Ran TinyTSS / Firmware Umbrella to capture the SHSH information.

If you do not have the SHSH on file for 3.0.1/3.1/3.1.2, you will be unable to downgrade the firmware on the device and unable to jailbreak until 3.2 comes out and a new jailbreak solution is offered.

    Good luck!

    EDIT: Moved to 3GS forum.

Thanks n1ckn4m3 for your reply. It was extremely helpful. Any idea why there is no jailbreak/unlock solution for this BB when it exists for all other previous versions?

Yep. 3.1.3 and this baseband are a minor update for the iPhone and are unnecessary for the vast majority of users -- the only fix in 3.1.3 that people care about is the battery life reporting -- and that really only affects a minuscule number of iPhone users.

While exploits exist for the 3.1.3 firmware and also for the latest baseband (see the latest post from dtube with geohot's latest video), if devteam or geohot releases software that exploits them right now, Apple will fix them before the 3.2 release -- which is what the iPad is rumored to be running.

From the dev team's perspective, the number of people running 3.1.3 with the latest bootloader and baseband is very small -- whereas the number of people who will be running 3.2 on their (new) iPads and stock iPhones will be huge when the new device is released, etc.

They don't want Apple to close these holes before the 3.2 release, or else they'd have to find another exploit, and Apple is definitely working harder and harder at making it more and more difficult to exploit.

Thanks a ton for the clarification. When can we realistically expect an unlock for 3.1.3 for BB 05.12.01? Please tell me it will happen probably after the iPad launch or when 3.2 is released!!!!!!

There have been no announcements so it really is anyone's guess. That said, reading between the lines ....

    1) We know there is an exploit that Geohot has found for the bootloader and firmware for the latest models, which he believes will also apply to the iPad.

    2) We know there is an exploit that Geohot has found in the baseband for the latest models, which he believes will also apply to the iPad.

If that IS the case, then I would expect to see something from him shortly after the 3.2 launch -- but quite frankly, I'd still ignore it and wait for the dev team's tools. I've personally been burned several times by blackra1n and the fact that geohot makes very shortcutty jailbreak tools and have learned the hard way that the dev team's work is much more reliable and better for the overall health of my device .

Thanks n1ckn4m3 for the reply. That helps. I do hope that the Devteam releases the jailbreak/unlock soon enough. I just want to get this phone working.
