    Default help/info required please!

HI all im new to the forum. from the UK

Please can anyone answer a couple of questions for me.

I bought a iphone 3gs (3.1.2) from ebay (brand new in box) i used blackra1n on it was working fine for a couple of days then the signal went on the iphone (o2 UK) no signal what so ever. so i sent it back to apple which in turn sent me a replacement iphone)

Now I want to jailbreak the new phone but I am still a bit hesitant of doing this as what happen to the last one. do you think is their a chance that jailbreaking the 3gs last time caused the "no signal/service problem?"

Also as my new iphone has a diffrent serial number to the last iphone, i back up the contacts etc to my new iphone however sometimes itunes recognises the new phone but when syncing/backing up a message will pop up saying itunes shows that your iphone is no longer connected when it is?

any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    regards

    BS77

I doubt that jailbreaking caused your previous problem.

I'm with Olethros on this one. The vast majority of complaints registered in relation to the jailbreak/unlock (*which I want to emphasize is not a large amount of complaints overall*) are in direct relation to WiFi issues and push notification configuration. I've never seen a situation where the jailbreak/unlock caused a 'No Service' issue unless it was unlocked, moved to the T-Mobile network, and then the user forgot to turn 3G off.

Im new to the iphone scene.

As the phone is new from Apple I must assume that it is unlocked already? is this a case on just jailbreaking it again. for the 3.1.2

Unless it was a "factory unlocked" phone, it is unlikely that it is "unlocked already"

Most phones are sold with a contract and locked to a carrier (eg o2)

In some countries (Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand etc) you can buy a factory unlocked iPhone directly from Apple. This costs more $$ but when activated via iTunes will work with almost any 3G or 2G carrier in the world (there are some carriers that use incompatible frequencies that the iPhone does not support)

Due to the way Apple implements the security related to restoring the OS on 3GS iPhones you may never be able to restore your iPhone to 3.1.2 again. Read http://www.hackint0sh.org/f203/109567.htm for more information.

That may affect your decision to jailbreak, as if something goes wrong your only choice is to restore to OS 3.1.3 which can't be directly jailbroken on a 3GS.
