    Default firmware backup possible?

    Hi,

i have a question. I got a 3gs 3.1.2 (new bootrom) jailbroken and unlocked by blackrain.

Is it possible to do some kind of firmware 'backup' including baseband, in case my phone goes nuts i could restore to 3.1.2 again with unlock?

    Thank you,
    Tomas

your phone is jailbroken by blackra1n and unlock by blacksn0w.
Just want to make sure you don't get thing mixed up.

no such thing as firmware "backup" including the baseband.
The rule of thumb is don't blindly restore with stock firmware that is higher than the one you have on the phone.

With 3gs, apple prevent restore of older firmware once a new firmware is out. That mean you cannot restore fw 3.1.2 without a backup of your 3.1.2 shsh. Please search the forum to understand that shsh+ecid is.

As long as you don't restore with higher fw than the one on the phone, the baseband does not change.

I highly advised you make a backup of your 3.1.3 shsh. go in cydia and click on "make my life easier" or look into firmware umbrella. Do it NOW !!!

yup, i did backup my shsh through cydia, but it say i got them for 3.1.3 version, though in reality the phone has 3.1.2 OS, i guess that it so because apple stopped signing earlier firmware versions and there was a time when i could still save shsh for 3.1.2, but now it's too late (i got my phone a month ago , so i was late already).

as i understand there is no way to create custom firwware to save unlock? and if my phone goes nuts i will not be able to restore to 3.1.2 in any way...

    Default firmware backup possible?

You are correct. There is no way to prevent baseband upgrade for your iPhone until an exploit is found/released that allows custom ipsw to be restored on your 3GS

Once the baseband is upgraded there is no way to downgrade it on your phone.
