Erase all content and settings - plus other questions
I have a itunes-restore related problem and my iphone is 3Gs (3.1.3 firmware, 05.12.01 baseband). My iphone was successfully jailbroken using Spirit and then unlocked using Cydia+Ultrasnow.
Then this week I did something that I definitely should not have done. I went into Iphone/Settings and pressed "Erase all content and settings". I wanted to clear out my contacts, pics from the iphone before giving it to my daughter. Since then the Iphone has frozen with Apple Logo. I put it into recovery mode by pressing down Home and Sleep buttons on the iphone. I read on some forums that the next step would be Itunes Recovery...
Problem is that from what I heard doing a Itunes Recovery with the Iphone plugged into the computer will lock it forever, since when you Recover Apple finds out that you jailbroke and unlocked the iphone..
Even if Recovery would work, my daughter would not be able to use such apps as Ibooks, because from what I understand that application requires Itunes version 10 and iphone firmware 4.0. But my Itunes is 126.96.36.199 and my Iphone 3.1.3...Is this correct?
I would really really appreciate any advice you could give me. I have a useless terribly expensive iphone on my hands and that really sucks big time (( I cannot use it myself and cannot give it to my kid either.
Please help or refer me to someone who can help.
Thank you in advance!
I really don't see why you couldn't restore it. The phone would have no reason to lock as long as you could get the phone in dfu mode (with the world and a USB chord on the screen).
The 100% most important question. Did you click "make my life easier in Cydia"? Did you ever open Cydia again after the initial ultrasn0w unlock? Did Cydia say if you had a SHSH on file?

TinyUmbrella The Firmware Umbrella can query Cydia and find out what SHSH you have on file there.
You first need to retrieve your ECID using the method explained here: PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X
Then use TinyUmbrella's advanced mode to check what Cydia has on file (if anything) for each version from 3.1.3 to 4.0.1 ( would check in reverse order)
This has all been explained in many existing threads. Please search based on the keywords I have mentioned before asking more questions.
To answer your other question iTunes 9.2.x and iOS 4.0 will support iBooks. iTunes 10 is safe to use but do not restore to iOS 4.1 or higher.
That is NOT dfu mode. It is recovery mode. They are different. Your advice is misleading.
