Default Does 3GS require a specific ATT sim card to avoid carrier unlock?

    Hi there,

I was wondering if I need to use a certain type of ATT sim card with out needing to carrier unlock the phone. I have a prepaid account and I am using an older ATT 3G sim card (blue) and I still need to use a carrier unlock to get service. Is there a sim card I need to switch to? Mine is blue and I see the new ones are orange.

would using the sim card that came with the phone avoid needing a carrier unlock?

if so, is that only one that would work? or could i just walk into a ATT store and get a new sim card (orange) and that would allow me not to have to carrier unlock?

    Thanks for any input.

The SIM itself shouldn't matter. I had my 3GS on a Cingular 3G SIM that must be at least 6-7 years old that has followed me for a long time and I had no issues until a few months ago when one day, out of the blue, it just fried. Phone went into SOS mode, had to go to AT&T and have them replace the SIM, but it worked again after that.

So long as you are not using the official carrier, you will need a carrier unlock unless the phone has been unlocked via soft-unlock methods detailed around these forums.

Hey, thanks for replying. Well this seems so strange, cuase I will jailbreak my phone and insert my prepaid att sim and I don't get any service. I have to carrier unlock to get service. so odd.
