Just a short Question. Do the Dev-Team and Geohot have two different methodes for jailbreaking the 3GS, or refer both to the same exploit?

So as the Dev-Team stated to wait for 3.0.1 (ETA?), can we at least hope on Geohot for bringing his out?

I'm pretty sure it's the same exploit. You'll notice that the dev team have moved to redsn0w to jailbreak, instead of updating quickpwn. Redsn0w was used to jailbreak the iPod 2G. Jailbreaking the 2G iPod relied on an iboot exploit to flash the 24kpwn exoit. It is pretty much the same as jailbreaking the 3GS. Geohot discovered the iboot exploit, but the dev team have the tools already in place to make use of the exploit. Geohot is probably respecting the dev team by not using their tools to release a jailbreak. He was quoted as saying that jailbreaking the 3GS is a 10 line change to redsn0w

I red in another forum (modmyi?), that he plans to release a JB in the next hours...

Another tought... Where is the sence in waiting to release the JB, when they allready told Apple, that they will use the same exploit, they used on the iPod Touch 2G? So Apple allready knows, what they have to fix for 3.0.1...
For me that hints to another exploit they found... What do you guys think about this?

I agree, something doesn't jive here.

Geohot already identified ECID as the new security feature to flashing custom firmware and 24kpwn exploit has been public for so long.......what is it exactly that the dev team didn't want to hand "on a silver platter"??

I'm still not getting it... Theoraticly we (and Apple) allready know what (the exploit from the Touch 2G + the ECID) it needs to jailbreak the 3GS, but nobody has hacked it together fitting the 3GS yet, right or not?

Have you guys read bigboss's explanation on why the Dev Team are waiting for 3.0.1.

No, the post does not make sense at all (at least to me).

As I undestand it, we are dependent on Apple server to dish out the iBSS certificate based on unique ECIDs AND we are dependent on the 24kpwn exploit to jailbreak the 3gs. The first requirement is dependent on Apple no matter what. Apple can stop signing iBSS certs for 3.0 when they launch 3.01. But nobody knows when this will happen and there is nothing the Dev Team can do (as far as I understand it) about this; REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE DEV TEAM RELEASE THE JAILBREAK TOOLS.

Both requirements necessary to jailbreak the 3gs are public.....what am I missing here?

So I've read this twice...

What I believe to understand now is, that Apple still doesn't know how the Dev-Team "signs" the (jailbroken) FW with the matching ECID from every Phone and understandebly don't wan't to make it public... Until as much people as possible got their ECID (those with 3.0 and with 3.0.1) to allow them a JB....

Finally right?
