Blacksn0w (RC2 or original) was never intended to fix your specific problem.
I have moved this to a new thread as your question was off-topic to blacksn0w rc2.
To answer your question. In general it is not possible to reload the baseband in a 3G or 3GS without upgrading it. The only two exceptions are 3G iPhones with baseband bootloader 5.8 or hardware re-flashing of the baseband chip.

do you mean baseband bootloader? I believe that can be reflashed via hardware. You have to physically remove the baseband/bootloader chip and reprogram it.

Yes and Yes
Are you aware of any attempts / successes for this very tedious and dangerous procedure?

Yes, TA_Mobile in Vietnam (who has played a significant part in helping the early jailbreak/unlock efforts) has been reflashing the bootrom/baseband on 3G iPhones since just after their release. According to him, the 3GS is much more difficult because they switched to a different type of chip and it is much harder to remove without screwing things up. I believe it is still possible though, just much harder.
sherif hashim (sherif_hashim) on Twitter recently posted on twitter a video link showing a hardware unlock of 3.1.3 baseband iPhone An acquaintance of his performs such unlocks frequently in his shop in Turkey.

@Mes,
The new 3GS has new bootrom and that is why a tethered-boot is needed at the moment. However, Geohot has shown a way around the tethered-boot in his recent video so may be this will no longer be an issue in the future. May be.
Anyway, the bootrom on 3GS cannot be changed, TA_mobile confirmed this with me.
BTW, if you do go to VietNam, TA_mobile can definitely change the bootloader on your 3G to 5.08 so you can use fuzzyband

I asked Skygoat76 here : HackStore: Crash Blacksn0w
I think you confused him. You just want to reflash the same baseband, 05.11.07, and that is what his procedure does. Wait and see what he says about it. I don't think the procedure came from him, but I don't know who came up with it.

pushfix. I moved your post to this thread, hope you are okay with that.
Regarding the baseband bootloader on the 3G and the 3GS it is not possible to erase or downgrade the existing baseband version. Only baseband bootloader 5.8 (on early 3G iPhones) can be hacked to allow this.
Without first erasing the baseband, I can't see how running bbupdaterextreme can actually help at all.
I can only see how the procedure you linked to could work if the user was running 04.26.08 before they ran bbupdateextreme
