    Default "Connect to iTunes" Screen

So I recently bought a 32gb iPhone 3gs, with intention on jailbreaking/unlocking and reselling. It had iOS 4.3.5 on it originally, and I have read that you need to downgrade in order to do an untethered jailbreak, so I attempted to downgrade to 4.3.3. Unfortunately this now leaves me with the "connect to iTunes" picture on the screen after the apple logo, and won't allow me to start normally. I can also get it to start into DFU mode.

Now, I have tried to downgrade still in both the connect to itunes screen and in DFU mode, both options give me errors. Ive also tried to upgrade via itunes with no avail either. I have gotten "cannot connect to itunes server" as well as errors 2005 and 1604. I've changed the "hosts" file back to original, and even kept it with the modified line and ran TinyUmbrella's TSS server. All of this with no luck.

*EDIT* by the way, I am running Windows 7 64-bit

If anyone could be of some helpt to me it would be much appreciated, I'm banging my head against the wall here trying to get it working.

    Thanks!!

Do you have an SHSH on file with this phone for 4.3.3? Check the SHSH link in my signature if you're not familiar with what SHSH are. If you do not have an SHSH for 4.3.3, you will likely only be able to upgrade to 5.0 now.

10/31/2011 11:53:53.710 You have saved your iPhone3GS 4.3.3 (8J2) SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH. Do NOT bug semaphore about the Cydia home page showing this version

That is from the TinyUmbrella log, I'm not sure if that helps as I don't have a complete understanding of SHSH even after reading your link. A bunch others show up as saved but some show as they aren't on the server.

OK, then you should be able to use TinyUmbrella to download your 4.3.3 SHSH and then use TinyUmbrella to run a TSS server that will allow you to restore back down to 4.3.3.

thanks! I was able to use tinyumbrella to savce the SHSH and restore it, then jailbroke it with redsn0w.

The problem that arises now is unlocking it, I attempted ultrasn0w and blacksn0w with no luck, the first time i wasn't able to get service and the second time I was stuck on the apple logo. I restored it back to 4.3.3 and I am jailbreaking now.

    I have a 32gb iPhone 3gs with iOS 4.3.3 and baseband 5.16.02

I think the problem you'll have is that the 05.16.02 baseband NOT presently able to be unlocked. There's also (unfortunately) no way for you to downgrade the baseband on the phone back to one that is. Your only option to gain an unlock right now is to use redsn0w or PwnageTool to install the iPad baseband on your phone (06.15.00), however, it is very important to know the following things before even THINKING about this:

    1) Your GPS will not work. Ever again. Period. Just pretend you're physically removing the GPS from the device by doing this.
    2) You will never again be able to restore to a standard firmware, it will error. You will only be able to restore from a custom firmware.
    3) Even restoring from a custom firmware, your phone will stick in recovery mode and must be kicked out the first time.
    4) You can not undo this. There is no going back. There is no downgrading. There is no fixing. If you install the iPad baseband, you are stuck with it for life.
    5) This voids the HELL out of your warranty in a way that Apple can detect in absolutely no time at all.

WITH THAT ALL SAID (and understanding that the GPS comment is a little heavy handed, it didn't break everyone's GPS, and the dev-team is working on a solution to restore GPS connectivity, but since it's not out, just assume it won't work and never will to be safe), you do have an option if you absolutely must have the phone unlocked -- it's just not anything that we really recommend. It causes a lot of problems over the life of the phone, and will impact you in the future *EVERY TIME* you go to restore the phone. If you're OK with these risks and caveats, check the dev-team's page for the redsn0w or PwnageTool that will install the baseband for you -- you can then re-run ultrasn0w and be unlocked.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Wow. You have been extremely helpful!! I've always tinkered and "hacked" all devices from phones to computers to game consoles, and coming into the scene with no knowledge is always tough. This seems like a nice place to start with apple products.

Again, I appreciate the help very much! I think I'll just leave this one jailbroken!
