Can 3GS on 3.0.1 upgrade to 4.0.1 from itunes restore and keep unlock?

I have a US version 3GS on 3.0.1 firmware which is unlocked and jailbroken. If i want to upgrade to 4.0.1, can I just update it through itunes directly? Will it be bricked? THanks!!

You can do this.. it will likely work. It is not ideal.
However the better way is to use pwnagetool / custom IPSW and retain your existing baseband.

That way you have minimum risk and the ability to roll back to at least iOS 3.1.x safely.

I don't need an unlock (have an officially unlocked 3GS) but I still run the 3.0 baseband on iOS 4.0

You are safe to restore it with pwnagetool even from 3.0.1 - pwnagetool does not support "upgrade" only "restore"

What is the oldest SHSH blob you have cached? Did you manage to get SHSH blobs for 3.0/3.0.1?

hello, I have the 3.0.1 too on a 3gs iphone. i want to have 4.x iOS but I dont have the mac. And as i understand the pwnage tool is only used on mac's? Am I right any way of using pwnage on windows?
