Depending on which carrier you use, you may have to configure some settings manually (eg MMS settings)
no problem whatsoever concerning the above issues the only problem you might face is that it is out of stock.

    Default UK iPhone factory unlocked

I have been in the market for some time for a factory unlocked iPhone in the UK and I have done a bit of research... I was ready to buy off ebay, but now I'm not so sure...

For UK users who want a phone, but no monthly contract, I think the easiest/cheapest option is actually to buy an O2 PAYG iPhone and then they will unlock it for 15. (monthly rolling contract I think)

    3GS 32Gb Black 549 + 15 Factory Unlock O2
3Gs 32Gb Black 680+++ Factory Unlock Ebay (and possible warranty hassle)

So, at least a 100 cheaper (depending on model) than fleabay.. AND O2 give you 12 months of 3G/BT Openzone wireless access included in the PAYG.. of course that goes when you unlock, but seems like a better deal than ebay overall...

Orange don't say anything on their pages about unlocking iPhone and another post here said they wouldn't do it for PAYG users... tossers.

Vodafone are only doing contract (not PAYG).

Hope this helps someone... seems a no brainer unless there is something blindingly obvious I have missed...

In Malaysia, Maxis is selling factory unlocked units. Confirmed. Sooner, Digi will also be joining the bandwagon with factory unlocked units too.

Any suggestions for users from the US looking to purchase a 3gs to replace a 3g, I am a AT&T customer who can't "upgrade" yet.

Iphone 3GS is also available in Macedonia, widespread distribution network across the T-Mobile.The price of the phone depends on the contract (one or two years) and what tariff you choose. I have bought one iPhone 3GS (16 Gb, white) in October 2009 and works perfectly so far.

iPhone 3GS prices without contract (just unlocked phone)
    16GB -40 990 den.=662Euro
    32GB-45 990 den.=742Euro

Prices on the phone with a contract of loyalty 24 months:

With monthly subscription of 15 Euro 16 GB 3GS can be bought for 349 euro
With monthly subscription of 15 Euro 32GB 3GS can be bought for 429 euro
With monthly subscription of 30 Euro 16 GB 3GS can be bought for 281 euro
With monthly subscription of 30 Euro 32GB 3GS can be bought for 281 euro
With monthly subscription of 59 Euro 16 GB 3GS can be bought for 0.02 Euro
With monthly subscription of 59 Euro 32 GB 3GS can be bought for 50 Euro

I bought an iPhone 3GS (model MC134FB) which, after some searching on the internet, I found to be from Louxembourg carrier LUXGSM. Well, it doesn't sim to be factory unlocked. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong. let me tell you the story of this iPhone:

when I bought it, the guy told me it was factory unlocked. It had FW 3.1.2, the 5.11 baseband but the new bootloader. I put my SIM in (is an Orange SIM) and it worked. Oh, I forgot to mention that it was a jailbroken iPhone (but thetered).
When Spirit JB came out, because it was an unthethered JB, I wanted to JB my phone with it. But I needed a fresh FW (never JBen). So I updated to 3.1.3, knowing that for the new baseband there isn't an unlock, but hey my device was supposed to be factory unlocked. So after the update I got no service. I did the Spirit JB without a problem, but with No service being displayed in the upper left corner. After some rebooting the FW wouldn't even load, I got stuck at the Apple logo. So I tried a restore, but after the restore I was presented with the activation screen. With my SIM card in I tried to activate it via iTunes, but no luck. That's why I say maybe the LUXGSM iPhones are not Factory Unlocked...

You always need to check at purchase time that it is actually factory unlocked. Buying an iPhone that is supposedly "factory unlocked" that is not in a sealed box but instead with a tethered jailbreak sounds suspicious. I would not trust that at all.

Additionally this thread is for countries which have the OPTION of factory unlocked. Not guaranteed that every phone from that country is sold unlocked. That is a very uncommon occurrence as the carrier subsidised

Hello threaders, just got a an i phone delivered at home by mistake. It's factory unlocked, from US. Just went to i tunes and got it unlock. My question is should i jailbreak it?
And the same way apple allow the phone to be unlock, can't they just lock it?
