Hi there guys i bought myself a iphone 3Gs 32gb from Optus Australia. I dont know if OS 3.0 is still being shipped or i am just a lucky person.
Now what i want to do is update it to 3.1 because as far as i know this will able me to have the most options if i choose to jailbreak but still get all the positives in the 3.1 update ( testing jailbroken touch first already broken with blackra1n)
I have tried downloading firmware 3.1 and holding shift in itunes to update to that file but itunes will try and authorise the file and it comes back un-authorised. i have also tried using Quickpwn and dmfu mode but still get this error many times over.

Firstly, should i bother going to 3.1? there are already some apps i cant use as they need 3.1 or 3.1.2 to run. or just stick with 3.0

Secondly, how can i update using an old firmware.

Any help would be great thanks.

Old bootrom - definitely.

You should use jailbreak at 3.0 with redsn0w (0.8 or 0.9.2) then load custom ipsw (made with pwnagetool) to restore to OS 3.1.2 (I don't recommend you bother with 3.1)

That is only way for you to get to 3.1 or 3.1.2

Don't restore to 3.1.3 you lose jailbreak ability until spirit jailbreak comes out.
