btw this winterboard is a freakin paint in the butt, it always messes up my phone and i always have to restore, im no longer using winterboard now. They really have to fix that piece of crap.

Pwnagetool will register the afc2 service during the flash, so you've no worries there. That said -- it's likely that your problems with Winterboard are more specifically with one of the additions to it, and not Winterboard itself -- as there are lots of people here with Winterboard working fine on their 3.1.2 devices -- what Winterboard themes/add-ons have you loaded and do you have active?

I've never experienced a Winterboard crash except for the first time I installed it on 3.0 and it wasn't ready for that . I don't do too much with it, just the Lock Background at the moment. I'm also not a big 'theme' person, so it may be my exposure to Winterboard was somewhat limited -- but let us know so we can help you troubleshoot, Winterboard should not be crashing on your device and if it is, there's a way to make it stop -- guaranteed.

yeah man i never had problems either but my last 3G 16gb crashed THREE TIMES becasue of winterboard and i had to do full restore everytime. I never use themes or anything just option "user background" THATS IT. And this time my 3GS froze becasue of winterboard and this time i decided im not going to use it anymore until i find a fix. Thanks for your help though and i will look at the link that person posted right above this post.

when did you do this? How long has it been? Thanks

I did it with a pwnage tool jailbroken iphone 3gs when it was first released for 3.1 (two weeks ago maybe). I then did it with a blackra1ned iphone 3gs on 3.1.2 on Sunday and as recently as yesterday on a pwned 3.1.2 iphone 3g. I posted this in MMI forum and have had positive remarks back of people using this method to get winterboard working on 3.1.2

I believe the trick is to get mobile substrate installed separately to winterboard. Something about installing those two at the same time can cause a boot loop.

alright followed your instructions and for now winterboard is working witht he only option "user wallpaper" I do not plan on downloading any themes or whatever. Thanks and i hope this stays like this.
