Default 3GS stuck in recovery mode..

    Hi,

I have a iphone 3GS which I had unlocked so I could use a global sim card while traveling. During this time I tried to update my phone and now it's stuck in recovery mode and I've been trying to get it out now for the last day and a half.

I have tried holding power/home for 10 secs and all that jazz.. still get the itunes connect logo.

I have tried tiny umbrella and the exit recovery mode and also tried the tiny umbrella terminal commands with no luck.

Restore in Itunes doesn't work and I have tried a option click restore then loading a restore file which again fails.

I have the latest itunes and software on my mac and it's pretty annoying that I'm carrying such an expensive piece of eq that doesn't work anymore..

Any advice would be most grateful.

Help us to help you, please provide an iTunes restore log (published on pastebin), or even an iTunes restore error code.
What iOS version is the phone running now?
Did you update to the iPad baseband to allow unlock?

    Hi,

I'm getting an error 1015 in iTunes restore. There also in no iPhone log files in my log folder for some reason.

I'm not sure on the method used to unlock the phone as I took it into a shop to get it done. Also not sure on the current version of my iPhone, all I know is that I was updating to the latest version and it failed. Sorry I don't have more information for you.

When you unlock "unofficially" you must AVOID updating to the current iOS version unless you know it is 100% safe.
The shop likely just loaded the iPad baseband on the phone.
You probably aren't looking in the right place for the logs.

    1. identify which saved SHSH blobs you can obtain (tinyumbrella, find the ECID manually if necessary)
    2. if you have a saved SHSH blob for 4.3.3 downgrade (otherwise you are limited to a tethered jailbreak)
    3. use fixrecovery (a separate tool you can download from the same site as TinyUmbrella) to exit past the 1015 error
    4. use the correct version of redsn0w (depending on which iOS version you have restored onto your phone) to jailbreak
    5. Install ultrasn0w via Cydia to unlock again

If any of those points are unclear, search hackint0sh for key phrases from the procedure. Every step here has been explained in detail on hackint0sh previously.
