Angry 3Gs restarting and need to restore...

Hey guys. Ive got a problem with my 16GB iPhone 3Gs. Yesterday I decided to reset it using the Erase all content and settings option. It took about an hour just like it said it would, but wound up with just the Apple logo on the screen - and the daisy wheel loading icon - which wasnt moving.

Now I checked the net and I found out that the problem is solved by restoring to 3.1.2...

Now the problem is this when I try to restore to 3.1.2 itunes won't let me.The error that apple is showing is as follows..

The iPhone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build.

    Itunes version is 9.1.0.79

How can I check the baseband in this situation?

    Not a baseband issue.

This issue has been discussed to death. Next time search, you'd have found 392,493,596 other threads with this exact issue.

    1) Erase all content and settings also erases the firmware. This is behavior by design. After you do this, you MUST complete a restore.
    2) 3.1.2 restore requires an SHSH on file unless you have one of the first run 3GS iPhones with the old bootrom. If you don't know what that means, check the stickies, it has also been discussed to death.
    3) In short, you cannot unlock, and if you do not have an SHSH on file, you cannot downgrade to 3.1.3, which means you cannot jailbreak.

The upgrade to 3.1.3 locked your phone, re-jailed your phone, and presently, if you're running the new bootrom, there isn't anything you can do about it until June/July when the new hardware is released and new jailbreaks and unlocks are sure to follow.

Since this covers nothing new, thread closed.

Just to clarify it appears this user has not (yet) loaded 3.1.3 - they are still stuck after "erase all content and settings"

So this section of your response should be taken as - if you try and restore official 3.1.3 then you will end up with a phone that can't be jailbroken or unlocked until June/July.

I would definitely try to see if the 3GS is old bootrom - a guide for finding this is here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f203/117732.htm and also here PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X

D'oh! You're right, I assumed -- my mistake. Oletheros is correct, just doing a wipe didn't upgrade or lock you.
