3GS Jailbreak w/o Activation
This is probably a silly question so please excuse me. I have a legitimately unlocked 3GS (bought in Hong Kong). I would like to jailbreak this puppy but I don't need to "hacktivate" it. In fact, I'd prefer not to hacktivate so I can avoid all of the problems with push notifications, etc. Does anyone know the best way for me to proceed. I've been out of the loop for a while.
Thanks

I think in your case you will always Activate since your phone is factory unlocked, no matter what SIM you have in.
You just need a computer, iTunes and an active internet connection. Nothing more.

So is there a way to jailbreak without messing with my normal activated state?

Just activated normally through iTunes and then run redsn0w.
redsn0w only Hactivates iPhones that are not activated already by iTunes.

sorry for my stupid question - next week i will get my new 3gs factory unlocked but i won't live without winterboard!!! also i don't want to loose my push feature - so that means that the certificates (or what else during the activation will be created to use the push feature) won't be touched in anyway when it will be activated correctly via itunes?

Exactly. Activate first in iTunes and then jailbrake with redsn0w after and you will be fine.
