I have an iPhone 3GS and recently, when my 3G service is turned on I cannot make or receive any phone calls and I also lose internet connectivity. It shows full bars and the 3G on. A temporary fix is to turn off and turn it on but then I lose connectivity after about 15 minutes, I get "Call Failure" when I make calls, and "could not activate cellular data network" when I go on Safari. The only thing that works is to turn off the 3G completely and everything works on the Edge network. I know I can restore it and start it as a new phone (what apple told me to do) but I wan't to keep my text messages on my phone and would not like to lose any other data. I did not jailbreak my phone. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I'm sorry, but a clean restore looks like the best option now. Good Luck

Agreed, however if you keep a copy of the last iPhone backup folder (I suggest zipping it up and keeping it handy) you can extract out the SMS database afterwards and possibly sync it back again (if you are willing to jailbreak)
