i have a iphone 3gs bought from a friend which is locked to austraila telestra. did not get the card along with the phone.

i have as of now 6.15 baseband and 4.2.1 jailbroaken. It works fine but cannot use my wifi or 3g gprs since the battery gets heated up and dead within 1 hours time.

i tried using sam to activate it but could not get the values of imsi and iccid since i do not have the original sim bought with the iphone.

can any one suggest me what can be done in order to get my iphone back to normal.?

Use SAM - you shouldn't need the original sim. I think you are using SAM incorrectly.

thanks for your reply but i have tried all the ways cannot activate it. All i can do be restore back to default hackactivate it factory default and it drains my battery. can you show me the right way of using SAM so that i can use my wifi and 3g gprs

Please describe in more detail the process you have tried.


Specifically,
You should:
insert your normal SIM card.
restore/hacktivate
Install ultrasn0w - verify that ultrasn0w works.

Install SAM.
It should say ActivationState: FactoryActivated
Select Revert Lockdownd to Stock
Select De-Activate iPhone

Connect the phone to iTunes and let it activate normally.
verify ActivationState: WildcardActivated
Click on "backupActivation"
uninstall SAM (if you want to, it's no longer required)

If that doesn't work, then you need to try the options under Method. This generally requires that you know which network your phone is originally locked to.

i did exactly as you said on my current jailbroaken but did not work. so i reformated the whole mobile and started restore with 4.2.1 bb 6.15 and jailbroke it with greenpois0n and started over all again.

after jailbreak with greenpoison installed cydia with the help of redsnow 9.6 and got into it.

Then i installed the ultrasnow and it worked connected my local provider sim to its network.

Then i had installed sam by adding the repo and rebooted the device. I got iphone activated.

then into the sam i was able to see ActivationState: FactoryActivated
I selected Revert Lockdownd to Stock and it said stockified successfully
i again check back the ActivationState: Unactivated

now with the Subscriber Artificial Module :

Hacktivate : off
Enabled : ON
Method : Auto Detect

i could not get my iphone activated after connecting to the itunes. Itunes says

The SIM card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported. Only compatible SIM card that came with your iphone or visit a supported carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card.

not even after trying the manual method and selecting telstra Corporation ltd : Austrailia and all SIM ID one after the other i was unable to activate it.

I have the bill of telstra and it has the sim card number on it. i got the bill from whome i purchased this phone but he did not give me the sim card as he had lost it. Any further help would be appreciated and thanks once again for all your efforts to help me out and replying to me.

Apple may have found a way to block SAM activation, however this is the first I have heard of that.
SAM is being constantly improved and some combinations of carriers/sim cards don't work without access to the original SIM card (to save the unique information from that card)

I can't personally test SAM (have no phones that require it)

no right from the begining when the sam was under development phase i had been trying to use it but i could not activate it. i guess you are right i will need the original sim card which i dont have it but i have the sim number on the bill of the iphone from telstra austraila. I thing i will have to work on it to get through this.

I would rather stop believing that your battery drainage problem has something common with activation/hactivation. There is NO software way to drain battery within one hour(exception very worn batt). Read about my problem few posts before, 3gs has extremely sensitive power ic chip (you must be very careful when using non genuine car chargers,chargers, docks etc) . You're saying it's a second hand phone so you don't know basicly its history. Wifi/gprs problems are not normal too- you better check liquid seals shouldn't be red (red=flooded) /one in jack, another in dock connector, 2 spots on the mother board metal cover/

ps. leave that SAM stuff .... I are on 4.2.1 so use sn0wbreez 2.2 if U run on windows to make a custom ipsw and tick to activate it and jailbreak on ipsw preparation level. Go to DFU mode and then do what sn0wbreeze says. If your gps is dead - it's because of 6.15 bb and u will NOT repair it. If other functions will not be working correctly your hardware is damaged - don't see another option

iOS 4.1 and 4.2.1 rely a lot more on push notifications than previous versions. If you don't have your activation right, then you can easily end up in a situation where the phone is trying to establish push notification service and fails. This can occur even if you don't have a 3G/2G data service configured on the phone. This fixes most people's problems.

@pegaz666 is right, normally this won't flatten the battery in an hour, but it will flatten it overnight (with no usage). This does indeed point to a battery that has been damaged (maybe water, also maybe overheated, or simply a faulty battery).
