Default 3GS Activation Loop after 30m

    Hi everyone,

I need help! I have an iPhone 3gs that was previously jailbroken on IOS5. All of a sudden I lost service and it wouldn't connect to O2 or any wifi network. When I switched it off and back on again it showed the iTunes logo and lead with connect to iTunes. When I connected it to iTunes it said that it was in recovery mode and that it needed to be restored. I did this which then upgraded the iPhone to 5.0.1. What happened after this was that during the restore I would get the error this phone 'iPhone' could not be restored unknown error 1. Tried it again and it restored no problems and worked for about 30mins. Then lost service again. This time when I switched it off it says activation required. I then try to activate it and it goes to the connect to iTunes logo. When I connect it to iTunes it repeats the previous error message that 'it is in recovery mode, this needs to be restored'. I have had this issue for two weeks now and have tried everything possible to get it to work.

Does anyone know if it's buggered?

Thanks in advance guys, hope someone can help.

If a clean flash to 5.0.1 doesn't fix the issue, it's possible it could be a flaky baseband flash chip. Are you using this phone on the carrier it was intended to be used on? If so, and you're having activation issues, your best bet would be to contact Apple to see if they can repair or replace the device. If you're attempting to use on a different carrier, it could be an activation issue -- let us know how you activated/hacktivated and we can go from there.

    Hey n1ckn4m3

    Thanks for replying.

I am using the iPhone on the same carrier and keep restoring it many times at the moment it won't restore as i keep getting the error message 'this phone 'iPhone' could not be restored unknown error 1'. I have even tried to downgrade to 4.3.3 but keep getting error messages for that. I am near the end of my 2 year contract but don't want to upgrade just yet as I am holding out for the iPhone 5.

Doesn't sound good, but take a look at the 'Restore problems' link in my sig, and follow the instructions there to post a restore log for me to review. I should be able to tell you more then.

    Thanks n1ckn4m3 for getting back.

I took the phone to apple today who were very good. The woman took it apart and stated that the connections with the antenna are not perfect which is why it keeps losing service and because it is out of warranty it would be 119 to fix it but she said that my motherboard is on it's way out which is why it keeps asking to be restored. She said I could find someone online to fix it but she reckons it will only last a month and then it would die.

So I have decided to upgrade to the iPhone 4s.

Thanks for all your help in the matter.
