Default 3Gs 32GB Odd Behaviour - Error 1600 & 1601 while Restoring to Factory FW, PLS HELP

    Hi guys!

You are my last hope since (in my opinion) i tried everything i could think to so far.

For the record, i don't consider myself a newbie, since i flashed, unlocked and jailbreaked at least 50 iPhones so far (mine, friends, colleagues, neighbours and so on).

Here goes my story, hope it won't be long and that you can help me fix my problem:

A colleague gave me his iPhone (3Gs, 32GB, New Bootrom, updated by mistake iOS to 4.3.1, 05.16.01 basesand)

Since it was previously running iOS 4.0.2, 05.12.01 firmware, software unlocked - ultrasn0w, i tried downgrading it to 4.3, ipad baseband 06.15 for unlocking purposes.

Flashed custom 4.3 FW via sn0wbreeze, had some problems with it (iPhone screen went black by itself, needed to tethered via iBooty every couple of minutes to work.

Next day I tried to create another Custom Firmware but missed the deadline since 4.3 signature was closed by Apple (i don't know how, but the iPhone doesn't have any ShSh blobs saved).

So, finally, i tried reflashing to Stock 4.3.1 and wait for a solution (a jailbreak one / unlock).

The iPhone is in recovery mode, i hit the Restore button - Restore and Update - Preparing iPhone for Restore... (iPhone disconnects, i hear the ding-dong sound) THE DISPLAY ON THE iPHONE IS BLACK DURING THE ENTIRE PROGRESS, and after a couple of minutes : The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (1601) - or 1602, sometimes

The only way to get the iPhone of this black screen is to run GreenPoison, process completes, iPhone screen turns White, same error during restoring

Info : Windows 7 Ultimate, iTunes 10.2.0.34, HOSTS file edited (removed SAURIK's server) tiny.umbrella hosts deleted.

Please give me some guidance, since my colleague gave me a working 3Gs (although with iPod functions only) . I would like to repair it, since paying for a 32GB 3Gs is not an option.

    Thanks!

Restart your computer, put the iPhone in DFU mode (Not Recovery!) and restore. If you still get the error, try another computer (Mac or Windows) and do the same thing, DFU then restore.

@element - Thanks mate, tried on 4 - 5 computers, Mac OS X, Windows XP, Windows 7, without any success!

I finally, after 3 - 4 days of searching for solutions, found the working one :

Disassembled the 32GB, pulled out the Motherboard and inserted in my 16GB phone.

Update worked, now running 4.3.1 and waiting for DEV-Team to release jailbreak for 4.3.1 and PwnageTool in order to upgrade BB to 06.15 and unlock the phone.

Resolution : if you encouter 1600 / 1601 / 1602 error while upgrading to stock firmware , change the iphone battery!

There are quite a few examples where 3rd party batteries can prevent restore/update. This can often be seen in restore logs (look for failures just after "updating gas gauge")
Please read the stickies & search forum before posting!
