Default 3GS 16gb extreme battery drain: 20-30% during night - how to flash BB??

    Hello,
I've searched everywhere and didn't find the answer. I came across on this article http://extechblog.wordpress.com/2010...file-solution/.

I've got Iphone 3GS 16gb with software 4.2.1 - can't downgrade to any lower because of lack of SHSH files.
    Here are my phone details:
    4.2.1 CF (bb update preserve)
    BB 05.11.07
    iBoot 359.3
    JB - greenp0ison RC6
activaction via oryginal AT&T sim card
    sim unlock ultrasn0w v1.2

The phone is second hand phone-don't know its history. My problem is battery drain - what I did: fully restored to clean 4.2.1 CF without any installed apps, without ultrasn0w unlock, and hactivation - battery still drains. Next changed the battery to brand new orginal one for 3gs APN: 616-0435. The phone with everything off wifi, BT, push, 3g data etc can eat about 20% of battery during the night. The phone is not warm, even disassembled it and touch every chip to check is it hot while phone was running. Tried SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module). The only thing that last to make sure there is a hardware/motherboard problem is the baseband... And here is my problem since I can't restore to the orginal 4.2.1 because it will close my way to have unlocked phone. I know there is a method to unlock via ultrasn0w and BB 6.15 from ipad but I will not do this as it will close my way for further apple updates. I must update just baseband form my old 05.11.07 to any higher but unlockable via ultrasn0w for example: 05.12.01 or 05.13.04 but I have no idea how can I do it. Would you please be so kind and give me an exact instructions how could I do it or is it possible? I'm not mega pro user but not a noob so I think I will manage with this with your help guys. Thank you in advance and waiting for reply.
    Best regards
    Michal W.

As advised via PM, this is not a good reason to update your baseband. Stay at your current baseband.

Battery drain often shows up in the syslog / console. So i'd start looking in there.

I found new significant thing. It seems not to be a software issue. I've tried 2 new batteries to 3gs - it didn't help, batt still drains. I did one more test. I've charged fully the phone to 100%, unplugged , TURNED OFF , and left for night. In the morning after I woke up , turned phone and what I see...? 65% of battery left!! The phone working fine with all its features but something else sucks off the energy from my battery even when my phone is off ( yes off, not on standby, aeroplane mode etc.). This must be something with motherboard. The phone is not hot, disassembled it, remove metal covers from MB and touch every single chip to check is it warm, but I didn't found any. I've tried on unplugged dock @ jack/power on ribbon. Didn't help still the same. I will need to check MB for faults but... how, got multimeter etc but don't know how to exactly bite it and start. What pushed me to do this test? When the phone come to me I've measured the batt VCC and saw 0.01 V on it - this shouldn't happend...What do you think ?

Very possible that instead you have a defective charging circuit, not a bad battery. Have you investigated from that perspective?

Yes definitely something wrong on MB but at this point have no idea what can I do next. How to diagnose fault on motherboard? Those chips SMP3i and 338S0768 responsible for power management seems to be hard to remove because of that hard glue around them , they are also quite expensive , and the risk of damaging MB is high so I would have to be more sure what exactly could be wrong before even thinking about "touching" those chips. Don't wanna spent 100$ for those 2 chips and guess they are faulty. It can be a capacitor, coil or any different part so I would like to check it before somehow...
PS.1 Did anybody remove/ replace those 2 chips?
PS.2 (at this point it's not important but...) I've spoken with a guy from sn0wbreeze team, he said he could modify ipsw file and make special one for me remotely on my computer so I could put desired baseband version so IT IS POSSIBLE... but he would charge me for that so I gave up this option cuz it wouldn't probably helped me at all.

Not possible to downgrade the baseband on an iPhone 3GS unless you are one of the very, very few with an old bootrom and old bootloader, so it's probably good you didn't give him any money. If you *COULD* downgrade your baseband, you could do it for free with FuzzyBand.

Are your push notifications working fine? I have the same 3gs 16gb 05.11.07 on 4.2.1, i already jailbreaked with redsn0w after restoring to custom firmware but push notifications wasnt working and after that battery started to drain! I used sam + pushdoctor to fix the problem. So if ur push notifications aren't working try to fix it to fix battery issue. I dont think u need sam bcoz u have an original sim.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply it may help somebody to fix his battery drain problem but unfortunately I will not be that one I got hardware issue with IC Power chip probably, my batt drains even if the phone is completely turned off so any software solution won't help me, but thanks. If someone knows on hardware /mother board repairs, diagnose any hints will be appreciated.
