[3.1][Advisory] Dev-Team Warn Not to Update
Quote: Dev-Team Blog - Rock Out without Lockout
Rock Out without Lockout
This week Apple will be all over the news with their announcements at Wednesday’s “Let’s Rock” event. But with so many new owners of the iPhone 3GS, and with so many new owners of the iPhone 3G (perhaps sold to them by these new 3GS owners)…now is a good time to send out this general advisory.
If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).
But don’t worry…our PwnageTool program lets you update your main firmware without touching your baseband firmware, so you can still have the best of both worlds. But you must be diligent about saying “no” to your iTunes request this week to update your firmware.

I would be very wary of installing anything on a 3GS now.
Some people have reported Push Notifications stopping working and resetting network settings puts the phone in restore mode.
Be VERY careful what you do with a 3GS until things get sorted.
The good news is that if you accepted Cydia's offer it will have grabbed all the files you need.

Is Apple still signing 3.1.2 for the 3GS? Has anyone tried yet to downgrade from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 without using SHSH files saved on Cydia?
I'm not planning on upgrading to 3.1.3. I'm asking out of curiosity and in case any of my friends "accidentally" upgrades and needs help.
@Confucious: Thanks again for your help 3 weeks ago on getting my "Remote Wiped" 3GS working again! I don't know if you saw my final write-up at the end of our ModMyI convo. It took three days and a lot of help from smart people like you, but I finally was able to get it into Recovery Mode and then get it working. Remote Wipe has some tricks up its sleeves Apple doesn't publicize widely.

Glad you got it sorted.
Apple normally stop signing old versions as soon as a new version is released so I would be very surprised if they are still signing 3.12 but I've not had this confirmed.
Best advice for a 3GS is do NOT upgrade to 3.13 if you want to JB.

Someone commenting in the DevTeam 3.1.3 post wrote that he tried it using Umbrella and Apple was still signing 3.1.2 for the 3GS. That was a few hours after the 3.1.3 release.
I still haven't heard of anyone who downgraded a 3GS from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 without using ECID SHSH files, using only iTunes. Hopefully, someone who "accidentally" upgraded will try. I'm not going to. I had enough 3GS rescuing adventure after that Remote Wipe...
