    Question Where does the iPhone 3G store the apn settings?

    I've jailbroken my 3G iPhone and now worried if the APN settings are still correct. I'm on unlimited data plan for T-Mobile Germany.

    It's just that I've read stories that with an incorrect APN, the monthly bills can be hundreds of euros, so I want to double check.

    Where can I find the file where the iPhone keeps the APN settings (I'll edit it over ssh)? I can not see the "Cellular Data Network" option when I go to Settings - General - Network. I guess it's somehow hidden when I use the T-mobile sim card, because I see it on my 2G iPhone.

    It's a bit different on a regular plan. You dont have to worry at all btw. The APN data are stored in the carrier bundle (inside carrier.plist to be precise). cause you are on an official contract Apple assumes that you dont have to change this setting, so the option for that is not visible.
    Just in case you want to check it:
    Its in the file carrier.plist in
    /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/TMobile_Germany.bundle
    You have to SFTP into that directory and open the file. Check in the Forum how to edit plist files, it is different on Mac and Windows.
    You have to add
    <key>AllowEDGEEditing</key>
    <true/>
    just after
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    and the option will show up.

    But, as I said, dont worry. The APN of your T-Mobile plan is used. Just make sure to set Data-Roaming to off in the Network settings of the iPhone when travelling - if not you got ripped off by data roaming costs.

    Default can't get It right... :(

    H'lo..

    I have a Jailbroken & Unlocked 2G iPhone Running the 2.0.2 Firmware, I tried to edit the "carrier.plist" file with "EditPad Lite" & "Ultraedit", but I just see ASCII characters, maybe there is something that I do wrong.

    Anyways, here is the link to my .plist file..

    >>> Carrier.plist <<<

    Can anyone try and edit it for me... or point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.. !!

    The linked file is already corrupted. What you want to do if using EdtiPad Lite is the following. SFTP into the iPhone and copy the file to your PC. Change the filename from carrier.plist to carrier.txt. Use EditPad Lite to open the file. Change the values you want to change but make sure to not screw up the XML structure. Save the file, then change the filename from carrier.txt to carrier.plist and copy it back.

    Make a backup of the original carrier.plist just in case...

    I think, the best way to control data connections is using BossPrefs; it allows you to turn on and off every service in a few seconds, so you don't have to worry about data trafic or extra charges even if you let your kid play with the iPhone :p

    Thank you, volkspost. I been trying to get Carrier Data Network to show up but my internet tethering would never work. Your method works fine. I have MMS, web browsing, and internet tethering working now. It's just that I used iFile to allow me to download/upload the plist.
