Lightbulb What if I don't activate? [iPhone 3g]

    Hi everyone

After a bit of Googling, I found an article saying that with the first gen iPhone, people bought it, unlocked it then used it, therefore not needing to use the contract.

On the O2 website (I live in the Uk btw )it gives you instructions for activating your iphone, but it's very expensive, (Over 300 pay as you go, 35 a month minimum for 18 months) and I was wondering if I could do the same thing as with the 1st gen iphone.

However, I've read that if you do this on AT&T you get penalised, and they activate it in store, so a couple of questions follow this :

    1) Since they give instructions for activation on the site, I presume they don't do it instore, can anyone confirm this?

    2) If I do do (lol) all of that mentioned above, will I be penalised by O2?

*I know the iphone 3g can't be unlocked yet, but we can hope, eh?

Your contract will get enforced and activated instore, or you have to pay full whack for PAYG, no way round it.
