upgrade unlock 3G phone
Thank you for your reply.
I have a friend of mine, who bought a used 3G iPhone. It is still on older firmware than 3.0, it is maybe 2.2.1, and the Modem firmware was 04.26.08, and he wants to ( unlock it+Jailbreak it+upgrade ) it.
Is it possible to install 3.1.3 while keeping the old Baseband and unlock it ??
Whats the best and safest ( upgrade/unlock/Jailbreak ) to do for this case ??
I've moved this from the other thread, as this is an entirely different question. Please don't hijack threads like that in the future.

If your friend is on OS 2.x, they should first upgrade or restore to OS 3.0 and jailbreak with redsn0w
iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3G on OS 3.0.x Using RedSn0w (Mac)
This step is very important as it loads the 04.26.08 baseband which is the only baseband supported by ultrasn0w (the most stable unlock)
Then use pwnagetool to load a custom 3.1.x IPSW, normally 3.1.2

Right now, there is really no use in running 3.1.3 and a lot of risk.
If you are not on a mac, redsn0w is nearly identical on windows. For 3.1.x get a custom IPSW made with pwnagetool from the net - we are not allowed to link to these on this forum.
