unlocked/jailbroken 3g stays dark on screen
My iphone was acting just fine yesterday and today when I woke up, no matter what I press it doesn't light up. The screen stays dark. But when plug it into the computer (MAC) the computer reads that its there and will sync and back up in itunes.
I have a unlocked/jailbroken 3g iphone running on version 3.1.2 software on tmobile. Can I hit the "retstore" button on itunes or will I lose everything including the unlock? Is there a way I can not lose everything including the jailbreak and unlock?
I'm not really tech savvy, so step by step or easy directions are preferred.
Thanks so much!
If you attempt to wake up the iPhone and then look at the screen under daylight or a bright light and hold it at an angle, can you see anything on the screen at all (even if it is dim)?

If it is the backlight, then it is impossible to replace just the backlight, you need to purchase the entire front section (LCD, touchscreen, glass, home button etc). This costs around $99 at iFixit - iPhone 3G Display Assembly - iFixit you can find it cheaper if you hunt around, but you risk getting the wrong part.
It is possible to damage the coil on the motherboard by not properly powering off the phone before replacing the screen or via water damage. Or by using the wrong replacement screen (eg a 3G screen on a 3GS iPhone).
A DFU mode restore did not fix my problem.
