Default Unlocked Iphone 3g with turbo sim using 2g contract/plan

I want to buy an Iphone 3g unlocked with one of those turbo sims or similar products. I want to use my current sim from my iphone 2g with the 20 dollars a month and 200 text messages. but i am not sure if they can find out if i am using a 3g because i have a turbo sim in it. i am hoping the turbo sim will let me use my att sim regardless of the plan. i don't understand why somebody can use the turbo sim with another network and not get a required data plan. i have looked everywhere on the internet and didn't find an answer. my sim card is a 3g card because it says 3g on it and if i put it in another phone with 3g i get 3g service.
Overall question: will i need the right data plan from att if i use a turbo sim?
(if you guys can think of something to help me, please say so, and thank you for your support. also if you think i missed something tell me too.)
