A buddy of mine recently purchased an iPhone 3g unlocked off eBay. He bought a prepaid shitty at&t phone, put the Sim in the iPhone and got everything working. A couple days ago the wifi started going in and out and he decided to call at&t and ask them what was going on. Stupid mistake I know. Anyway they told him to update his software so he did which was also stupid. After restoring it, it is asking for a Sim card with no pin lock. He brought it to me thinking I could try and do something. Doing some research I tried everything I could but since he restored it I cant access anything besides the screen that tells me to put in a Sim card that works with iPhone's and the emergency phone. We've tried putting other at&t Sim cards in but it needs an iPhone one that will be compatible. Is there anyway that I can get around this screen to get to the NEW main menu cause of the restore so i can jailbreak it and then unlock it again for him so he can put in his prepaid Sim card and start using his phone again or do I have to go to at&t and get them to put in a Sim that will work? You are talking about activation not unlock

I cant do any of that because when I plug it to itunes I can press restore cause its not there. A screen comes up about the sim card. Any other suggestions. My brother has an iphone, would I be able to activate my buddys 3g with my brothers sim then just put in my buddys prepaid sim card in?

So are you saying that even though the tutorial is for 3GS, it will also work for a 3G?

I meant that redsn0w will jailbreak a 3G running 3.1.3. I copied the wrong link from iClarified earlier sorry.

It is not possible to jailbreak a 3GS running 3.1.3 without downgrading the 3GS to 3.1.2 first (and that requires a backed up 3.1.2 SHSH which is unique for your phone)
