Unbricking an Iphone 3G Blind?
Long story short, I have an Iphone 3G which is currently stuck in recovery mode that I know nothing about. I do not know the current firmware on it, and I don't know the baseband on it. The only thing I do know is the owner originally had it working until she attempted to update on Itunes (the phone was apparently jailbroken originally, method unknown). The restore error is 1015, and my attempts to kick the phone out of recovery with tinyumbrella did not work.
Can someone guide me on how to proceed? I have yet to attempt downgrading to a 3.XX firmware, which to my understanding might be a good start. Hoping someone can confirm i try this or provide a better alternative.

Put it in DFU mode and restore 3.1.3 onto it to begin with. If this is a 'downgrade', you will need to use TinyUmbrella at the end to kick it out of recovery. That should get you to a point where you can figure out the baseband, etc. If it's on 06.15, you'll need to use PwnageTool or redsn0w to strip the baseband out to make the recovery complete successfully.
Once you're there it should be a lot easier to figure out what to do.

Are you making sure that you're stripping the baseband update out of the custom firmware? You have to do this in order to restore a 06.15.00 device.

Please search, this has been detailed hundreds of places and was detailed in the documentation that was provided when you elected to install the iPad baseband. It's also detailed on the redsn0w site and on the dev-team's site. AND it's also covered on the forums hundreds of times, hell it's a sticky in the ultrasn0w forum.

The first thing we recommend when people have trouble while using sn0wbreeze is to use redsn0w. Though sn0wbreeze should work, when it doesn't, we recommend redsn0w. Beyond that, if you use redsn0w and make the custom firmware and still have trouble, read the 'Restore Problems' link in my sig and post your most recent restore log to pastebin as it details, then we can review that and see if we can make heads or tails.
