Default ultra slow/non-boot on patched commcenter

i've found a few sets of instructions on how to set up unlocked/JB 3GS on 3.1.2 for tethering.

the first two i found indicated that patching commcenter was required. after patching commcenter the phone is ULTRA slow to boot, if it boots at all (in excess of 5 minutes). often (4 out of 5 times) it just hangs at the apple logo indefinitely (went to bed for 5 hours and it was still hung when i got up).

in any case, this is unacceptable so i decided to forego tethering and restore back to the unpatched, original commcenter file. (fwiw, i have it now tethering and MMSing on Tmobile U.S. without a commcenter patch with the patch)

however, reverting to the original commcenter file this did not resolve the slow/non-boot issue.

what else could have happened during the patch process (all i did was ssh into the phone and upload, chmod the file)?

any ideas welcome. if the phone locks on me in the field i could be waiting 30-40 minutes trying to get the phone to boot.

Try a restore of the iPhone, it could be a completely unrelated issue software or hardware.

A restore in DFU mode will rule out software problems.
