Default Is there a way to diable EDGE only leaving 3G signal on?

For windows mobile devices / aircards there is is always a way to tell the the device to connect on 3G speeds only. if you dont have 3g signal you will get no service instead of EDGE.

Is there a way to disable EDGE on the iPhone leaving only the 3G radio on?
The bossprefs switch kills the entire internet connection if you disable EDGE.

    Thanks,

I tried to do this with Bossprefs, problem was 3g and edge share an ip address, so 3g wouldn't work without edge. As soon as I reactivated edge, 3g came back on line as well so... my thoughts are no - you can't do this.

Yes i suspect the same results will be with SBSettings as it uses the same method. i dont understand why 3G should be depended on EDGE in the iPhone. it is not like that on any other platform.

Last idea and untested by me is hood

EDGE Toggle. Unlike other solutions (actually, all that I've seen around), this one disables and enables EDGE without touching the APN settings.
