For windows mobile devices / aircards there is is always a way to tell the the device to connect on 3G speeds only. if you dont have 3g signal you will get no service instead of EDGE.

Is there a way to disable EDGE on the iPhone leaving only the 3G radio on?
The bossprefs switch kills the entire internet connection if you disable EDGE.

I tried to do this with Bossprefs, problem was 3g and edge share an ip address, so 3g wouldn't work without edge. As soon as I reactivated edge, 3g came back on line as well so... my thoughts are no - you can't do this.

Yes i suspect the same results will be with SBSettings as it uses the same method. i dont understand why 3G should be depended on EDGE in the iPhone. it is not like that on any other platform.

I checked Hood 1.1. thanks for posting that. It is still not working when you disable EDGE. bummer.
