Is there really a big difference in the speakers on a 2G to a 3G iPhone?

I have the 2G iPhone currently and am looking to upgrade to the 3G iPhone but not so much for the speed but the speaker on my iPhone 2G sucks when I use the speaker phone for conference calls as it is not loud enough. Has anybody compared the two that noticed a big difference?

I have both the 2G and 3G phones and the speakers are louder on the 3G. There is a volume hack for the 2G which makes it come close but I think the 3G still edges out.

does anybody know if the volume hack is out for the 2.0.1 firmware yet?

If you do the speaker-mod (pinching the little holes in the speaker outlet with a needle), the 2G it's as loud as the 3G. I did and compared with my friend 3G. I'm happy now with my really loud 2G.
