Is there any way that Apple can tell an iPhone has been JailBroken?

After doing countless hours of Google searching there seems to be just so much differing opinion on this.

If an iPhone is jailbroken and at some later date restored back.....is there ANY tell tale signs left over whatsoever that Apple could find if they where so inclined to look?

    Thanks

Apple could theoretically place some code to detect the jailbreak pwnage into one of their apps, and secretly tuck that result into one of the (very few) places that survives a restore. Or they could secretly communicate it to iTunes. But they haven't done that yet, and they probably have far better things to spend their time on. Also it could turn into a publicity nightmare if they were found to be doing that.

(Note: if you're on a 2G iPhone that's been unlocked via BootNeuter, they can easily detect that at the store, unless you have BootNeuter remove its patches. Those patches are not overwritten with a normal restore).
