Default AT&T network settings (APN) for non-US iphone

Been searching and experimenting for days... I have an iphone from Japan. Using a Gevey 3G to unlock and use a standard AT&T sim from my regular gsm phone (not an iphone sim).

Works fine for calling and receiving calls so far. I just can't seem to get it the network or data functions (mail, safari) to work. I was able to access the internet on my standard Nokia so I know my AT&T plan will allow it. I figure I just don't have the cell network settings correct.

I've tried wap.cingular and isp.cingular with user names like WAP.CINGULARGPRS.COM, ISP.CINGULARGPRS.COM, ISPDA.CINGULARGPRS.COM with the CINGULAR1 password but nothing is working. Anyone else have any luck (or maybe I'm the first one to try this strange combination on AT&T).

Ask AT&T for it. I did that with the carrier I use here in Sweden, and I'm also using a turbosim. They gave me the APN, and I just left user name and password blank. Works perfectly.

thanks scatchy. tried those settings. maybe it won't work due to my not using an iphone sim but a standard at&t sim (although the same sim works in my nokia...) or more likely because i can't use 3G enabled on the iphone (Gevey 3G limitation [which makes me wonder why it has "3G" in the name...]) and the settings won't work for the edge network.

I don't use an iphone AT&T SIM. My SIM is a regular AT&T 3G sim from my samsung phone. Sometimes it takes some fiddling to get xSIMs chips to work with 3G. I'm using Yessim and it's not always giving me 3G..

So the yessim does let your iphone use the web and email over Edge and 3G (if available)? Maybe I'll try one of those instead of the gevey. My sim is also an AT&T one with "3G" printed on it.

Well the Yessim works for me most of the time.. but because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for you. Since you're probably in a different area with different towers. It's probably best to read up on the xSim threads down here before you decide on getting another one.

Good one! not seen that one before. I've always used http://www.modaco.com/content/smartp...gs-by-network/ - but that's probably because I'm used to WinMo. Between the two of them they probably cover most!
