AT & T, Apple, O2, Carphone Warehouse to sell unlocked iphones
Hi Guys,
In the past week, there has been various rumors that all these stores will start selling unlocked iPhones. Mostly in US they started from last week, where as, it is expected the same in the UK from next week.
Dev team : Does this mass availbility of unlocked iPhones, take us any nearer to full unlock of the iphone?

Hi bud
What source link says they are unlocked?
I can only see topics that say No Contract but they still are locked to official network carriers.

Absolutely correct Speedy. Ppl just dont read. Same happened in Germany abount 5 month ago. Apple partner T-Mobile started selling the iPhone for 500 something Euros without contract.
Ppl got excited, thinking it would be unlocked - not.
The only countries where Apple sells the iPhone unlocked are countries where they are forced to do so by local regulations.
All others are still locked to the carriers as Speedy says.

Hi Guys,
Sorry my mistake to post a link for the second page, but on the first page it says
"US-based AT&T has already started to sell unlocked 3G iPhones for $599 for the 8GB model while the 16GB version will cost a rather substantial $699. In comparison, the T-Mobile G1 Android phone costs $400 SIM-free. But, according to a number of sources, iPhone purchases are limited to one handset per customer and the offer is limited to existing AT&T customers."
The correct link is here.

i guess the source mixes up contract free and simlock free. all other sources talk about att and apple selling iphone 3g's without requiring a signed contract in the store, BUT the iphone still bonded to the carrier. the only difference i guess is you have the free choice of plans.
