    Default [SIMlock] simlockfree reversible?

    hello everyone

does anyone know how the simlock works for the iphone and how it is controlled? is it possible to revert a simlockfree iphone to a simlocked one by a new activation, e.g. after a firmwareupgrade?

from my understanding (which might be wrong), an out of the box iphone is first unbricked and activated through itunes. is this when the simlock is introducted by the apple servers, or is the simlock already "in the box", right from the factory?
Since apple has the power to unlock a previously locked phone with itunes, it should be possible for them to lock a phone again, unless locked-->unlocked is a one way street. Does anybody know?
    iphone 2G 1.1.2 OTB & pwned (ex TurboSIM, now 3.1.2) & O2-de
iphone 3GS 32GB black, factory unlocked from Italy & O2-de

a proper unlock using NCK is permanent (the official iphone unlock done by T-Mobile in Germany / the Unlocked phones sold by apple use this method)

all other methods are hacks that are reversible (except IPSF which is another story)
