Default [Sim Card] Is it EDGE or 3G?

    Alright,
So I have the current gen iphone operating on my local carrier Cincinnati Bell. I have been using it with my old sim card that came with my original Cincinnati Bell phone. Since I plan on purchasing the 3G phone (if we find a way to) and using it on my carrier I went ahead and switched my sim card for a "3G" one that my carrier now offers. The thing that has me confused is, I don't have to pay more for this "3G" it is only a matter of switching sims. When I compare the metal contacts of the new sim card with that of my 3G ATT one that came with my iphone they look the same. I am just wondering if maybe my provider is offering EDGE and saying it is 3G or if it is real 3G? They never mention anything about 3G on their site but I found out they had it when I saw it as a listed feature on one of their phones in the mall.

    Side question:
If I do get my hands on the new iphone, will I have to enter different settings from the ones I do now in order to gain the access to 3G?

    Thanks Alot!

i guess its not the sim card that has to be 3g... only the network has to support 3g and the phone should be 3g enabled.

its never the sim card... its the phone

You need a different type of SIM card to use 3G. All SIMs have downwards compatibility, so the original card that came with the iPhone is a 3G Card although it's only used for EDGE.

So I have confirmed that my sim card is a 3G one. I wen't to the local store and they said that Cincinnati Bell hasn't rolled out their 3G service yet. They said that my phone would run on EDGE until the 3G comes. Will I need to put different settings in to access the 3G network?

Yes that is my understanding as well. I was at the Bell store again and I was asking about the data plan. I can pay 15 a month and get unlimited messaging and data. Then for PDAs there is a 50 dollar plan for data. I asked what the difference was and they said that with the 15 its not always full browsing...

I now have edge from Cincinnati bell but when I type in a website it just loads forever. Does anyone know what's wrong? The only thing I can really do is check the weather. I know that tmobile has that hack that let's u use the tzones Internet package, would a similar hack be required to make mine work?
