im selling my 3g to a friend, thats jailbroken, and i would like to unlock it for him, so that he can use his t-mobile sim (UK..dam were crap at football)

the firmware is 3.0.1 never bothered updating it,

can someone give me some advice and what to do, if i should restore/update, or if its possible to just to unlock it as it is...

any detailed how to's, links or any other usefull info would greatfully recieved!! im pretty usless with computers full stop, and thats mostly the reason its still on 3.0.1,

Upgrade to 4.0, use redsn0w to jailbreak, use ultrasn0w 0.9.3 to unlock. Problem solved.

And would I be able to do the same on a 3gs?

3GS cannot be jailbroken on 4.0 yet, but you can upgrade a previously pwned to a pwned 4.0. redsn0w works on Vista so you should have no problem.
