Default [Rogers] iPhone 3G theft operation in progress

You must all have heard by now how bad the price plans (min 3 yr contract and $60 for 400 MB) for the iPhone 3G in Canada and by Rogers…..

What should we do? Should we send letters of disappointment to apple? Will this cause Apple to take a second look at Rogers?

I am so mad I am lost for words...

I thin you are not alone for those of us who have Iphone 1.0 (my monthly bill is $29.00 including taxes and extras). It's a deal breaker for me to get a 3G when it's probable going to close to 3 X what I am paying now. My guess is when people starting lining up at the Rogers store on July 11th. There is going to be sticker shock when they see how expensive it is going to be.

I would expect there is going to be a high demand for iPhone 1.0 on the used market for these reasons

I wrote to Apple an Rogers, as many have already, here is what I got back from Rogers (I couldn't believe my eyes when i was reading this reply )

    Rogers wrote....

Thank you for taking the time to write to us, we appreciate your use of
    online customer service.

In your recent email, you have informed us that you are dissatisfied
with the price of our iPhone plans.

Rogers has designed a pricing structure that offers high-value, flexible
voice and data packages so that Canadians can make the most of their
    iPhone 3G experience.

The majority of carriers offering iPhone 3G worldwide do not have
unlimited plans for this device. Some carriers have implemented a soft
cap so the plan isn't truly unlimited. For example, in France the soft
cap is 500MB where we have a plan that includes 4 times that amount in
your bucket. Unlimited plans could end up costing you more for what you
    don't use.

Based on reports that the average usage for the first generation iPhone
was less than 100MB per month, our iPhone 3G plans more than accommodate
the vast majority of customers. Rogers and Fido customers get 4 times
the data on our $60 entry level plan (400 MB) and 20 times the data on
    our most comprehensive plan.

    We apologize for the inconvenience.

We are pleased to have been able to address your inquiry. For additional
information please visit our website at www.rogers.com. You are a valued
customer and we thank you for your business.

Now bend over, and thank you for your business.

Well Rogers seems to be talking bullshizz considering here in Ireland I'm on Vodafone with a 500mb download package for just 9 euro!

lol reminds me of years back when Bell capped at 5GB/month on their DSL lines (same time dropped Bell actually), claiming that their surveys showed that most users didn't go over 1GB/month.

Considering I'm sure a number of iPhone owners in the US got the phone either as a present or bought it for a friend/parents/etc...and I don't doubt that "a lot" of users did stay around the 100MB/month mark. However anyone who knows how to use an iPhone for what is is capable of...well those are the ones that are far, far, far over what telco's like to call "average".

Long story short I was really hoping for a $30/month unlimited plan from Rogers to use with my original iPhone...and there is NO WAY I am giving up my corporate voiceplan to go with one of those "iPhone plans" Rogers has come up with. Sometimes I wonder what would make Rogers more money in the long term...what they have done/are doing...or if they had offered truly unlimited data for $30-40/month for all data-capable devices. I know they would have had my business for at least 1-2 years.
