iTunes automatically does backups of the photos you take with the camera on the iPhone, but not the photos you load onto the phone. You can use a tool like the iphone backup extractor to get the files. Worked like a dream! Good luck

Although it's an old thread; Dr.Fone is easily the best iOS photo Recovery app out there, I appreciate the info on it as it helped me find the

solution I was looking for. Hopefully this will help others too. I've posted a step by step How-

To on my blog using the program mentioned in this thread (D-Vision 3).

Yes, photos are saved whenever you create a backup in iTunes. You can extract the photos from the backup using a backup extractor tool like iPhone Backup Extractor. Here is a helpful article on where are your backups stored and here's another helpful article on how to recover lost photos from backup
    These should help. Cheers!

Backups do not contain all of your data, photos, music and apps. They consist of just the record of what that data was, and the settings you had at the time of the backup. The backups are not like Time Machine where you can recover deleted/lost files.

When you restore from a backup, you will still have to reinstall your apps. The settings you had for them will be there, but not the apps themselves or the other data (music, photos, etc.). You have to restore that manually.

I usually try my best to keep a copy of my photos somewhere else, like on a stick or some other device. That's really the best way to make sure they don't get lost.

If your iPhone data are indeed gone, I would suggest you try using iTunes in order to restore your iPhone data (including photos)from the last time you last sycned your iPhone with your iTunes. Here is about how to recover deleted photos from iPhone.
Here are two easy methods to recover data from old iPhone :

One. Recover data from iPhone via iTunes.
    1. Connect your iPhone with iTunes on computer
    2. Right-click or control-click on the iPhone icon under iDevice on iTunes
    3. Select "Restore from Backup" from the given options
    4. After it finishes, your data are back to your iPhone
Important Note: This works only if you have made a backup for your data on iTunes.

Two. Recover iPhone Data without Backup by using third party iPhone Photo Recovery Software
If you have no backup for your data, you can download iPhone data recovery software in order to overcome the problem and restore iPhone data loss. Still you have not recovered lost data from iPhone, some on-line applications also available which can be helpful in restoring precious data details, probably will be able to find the solution to some extent.

    Hope it helps.
