    Default unlocking sim help??

i have a iphone 3g with 3.1.3 currently installed. i wanted to downgrade it to 3.1.2 by selecting my own software, but i restored it via itunes first, so it updated it to 3.1.3. now that it is fully restored, its giving me the "insert a sim" page and i don't have a sim. on itunes, its saying "insert a sim, then plug back into itunes". is there ANY way to over come this issue??

    thanks

Restoring to 3.1.3 installed a new baseband on the phone which is not presently able to be unlocked. Since you've got a 3G and not a 3GS, you can downgrade to 3.1.2 or earlier and attempt to do a baseband downgrade using something like FuzzyBand, but at present I'm to understand that it is extremely hit or miss. There are posts online of people saying that they were successful in downgrading the 05.11.07 baseband, and there are posts of people saying they were unsuccessful and had to do a full restore of 3.1.3 and wait for an unlock for the new baseband.

That said, you *can* use one of the hacktivation tools like blackra1n to hacktivate (use redsn0w to jailbreak if you have the opportunity, not blackra1n. Just use blackra1n to hacktivate if necessary) and get past the "Connect to iTunes" screen, but if you're attempting to use this on an alternate carrier, you'll need to fix the baseband issue before your unlock will work.

Hi n1ckn4m3. Thanks for your informative reply! I have one other question to ask.. When my friend recovered the phone iTunes started displaying the sim card not supported message and would only allow emergency calling. I guess this means that the originally the phone was locked (AT&T or something).

Would this affect the recovery process in any way? I have found this tutorial Downgrade iPhone 2G 3G OS 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 or lower | jailbreak which seems pretty good...

    Thanks for your support!!

Hi, I have managed to restore to 3.1.2 however the phone is now stuck on a connect to itunes screen showing the cable and an itunes logo. Is this a dead end?

Is there anything we can do to make this iphone usable until a proper jailbreak and unlock are released for the 3.1.3 firmware?

THANKS!!! I really appreciate any kind of reply.

    Simply use redsn0w to jailbreak:

Hi, I managed to restore the firmware to 3.1.2 (available on iclarified).. I held the shift key and clicked on the restore button on iTunes, I selected the 3.1.2 firmware. After it was finished the phone got stuck in recovery mode with an error 1015 from itunes.. I downloaded blackra1n and thats it. My next problem is the sim card.. Its basically like an ipod touch right now.. I'll keep you updated.

I have the black rain application lying on the home screen. However I think I still have the latest baseband installed.. Like n1ckn4m3 said, the baseband can be downgraded using FuzzyBand, however it seems I need Cydia for this.. How can I get Cydia?

    Thanks!!

The error 1015b is because baseband was not able to be downgraded.

We did recommend redsn0w for a reason. Blackra1n might be easier to use but it gives an inferior jailbreak. At least install AFC2Add from cydia and also push doctor. That will fix some of the things blackra1n botches.

You can't unlock unless you are very lucky and fuzzyband (from cydia) works for you.
