Default Replace "bars" of signal strength with actual number?

Anyone know if there is a way to replace the "bars" display of signal strength with an actual meaningful number or ratio, SNR dB, or whatever? Just thought it would be neat. Not really sure if the OS has access to this info in a way that could be shown on screen. I am not a developer so I wouldn't know where to start looking

    Edit - i have a 3G with OS3.1 jailbroken
