    Unhappy Recover old contacts backup?

My husband bought an iphone and we synced it to the computer on which I've already got my iphone synced. I've done good about no letting it overwrite any contacts until today. I don't know what I did when I synced them today, but itunes did an overwrite of all of my contacts with my husbands. Unfortunately, I never put all of my contacts directly on the computer. When I tried to do a restore, it only gave me the option of today's sync which contains HIS contacts. After doing some research, I found a backup file with a date from December. Is there any way for me to bring that into my phone to restore my contacts? Do I have any hope of restoring my contacts?

There are a few ways to take care of this, first thing you'll want to do is make a backup of that existing backup to ensure you have a few copies of it. Here's a brief run-down:

    1) Extract the sqlite database for your contacts from your backup, using a program like this one: Reincubate: Labs: Backup Extractor for iPhone: extract and restore files from an iPhone backup on Windows, Linux and OS X
    2) Jailbreak your phone if it is not already jailbroken, search around there are tutorials 100 times over for every model / firmware combination on these forums.
    3) Install DiskAid or iFunBox in order to copy files to the new device
    4) Run DiskAid or iFunBox and overwrite the sqlite databases and plist files in the directories corresponding to the database you want to replace (contacts / sms / call history / etc.).

If you need more focused instructions, let me know, but that should be enough to get you going with the search button.

    Good luck!

    Try to do via iCloud:
settings>icloud>check to see if your signed in or have contacts on, if you do then turn off contats, keep on phone, turn back on, merge and your contacts should show up again.

have u tried iCloud? More info on Apple website: iOS: How to back up and restore your content

If you use iTunes as your iPhone manager, you should know there is auto backup generated by iTunes when you sync iPhone with it. Yes, iTunes has done the backup for your iPhone indeed. You only need to restore from the iPhone backup file (SQlitedb file) by iPhone Data Recovery.

Deleting or losing a contact doesn't mean it is gone forever. If you haven't yet synchronized your computer and your iPhone, use iTunes. If you have synchronized your devices, use your most current backup or archive.

Follow below steps to recover lost contacts from your iPhone:

    1. Open iTunes on your computer.

    2. Plug in your iPhone to your computer just as you would to sync it normally.

    3. Locate the iPhone in the “Devices” column at the left of the iTunes application window.

    4. Right-click (Ctrl-click on a Mac) on the iPhone icon in the “Devices” column and select “Restore From Backup.” Select one of the backup versions from the drop-down menu and click the “Restore” button. This will restore any contacts that you have lost since your last sync in iTunes.

    5. Eject your iPhone and review the Contact list on your device. All lost contacts should be restored to your list.

Sure you can recover them from iTunes backup.
But I think you need small favor from some sorts of programs.
I know one Myjad iTunes Backup Extractor, which I have just tried to recover my SMS two weeks ago.
It works also for recovering photos, videos, motes, and of course contacts.
    You can have a try!
